When my stepmother laid bare her past as a witch doctor and embraced a path lit by Christ, it was a testament to the profound battles and victories within spiritual warfare. Her transformation is one of many stirring narratives we share as we delve into the nuanced realms of possession, oppression, and the Christian's armor against darkness. Scriptural wisdom from 1 Peter 5:8-9 and Ephesians 6 serves as our guide, examining the robust defense faith offers against the devil's relentless schemes. Our discussion dares to confront the controversial — can a believer be touched by demonic influence? — and offers solace in the truth that liberation through prayer and vigilance is within reach.

The tale of Lazarus, called forth from the grave by Jesus, resonates deeply with the spiritual reawakening we explore, particularly for those entangled in the 'grave cloths' of former sins. It's a powerful parallel to the journey of new believers, including Simon the Sorcerer, who grapple with shedding their old selves in pursuit of spiritual rebirth. In revealing these stories, we hope to embolden and support those within the church as they aid in unbinding these remnants and reinforcing the path to deliverance. The responsibility and privilege of the church in guiding through these trials becomes abundantly clear as we reflect on the ways we can all aid in breaking free from spiritual bondages.

Joining our online community is more than a call to action; it's an invitation to a fellowship of shared experiences and mutual support. Our platform celebrates the triumphs over darkness, inviting you to share your own stories of spiritual warfare and deliverance, and to stand with others in prayer. We are reminded that each testimony, each prayer, each act of generosity, weaves into the greater tapestry of our shared mission — to reach out, to uplift, and to glorify God through collective strength and individual faith.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

Welcome to this healing and deliverance tools podcast. It's a podcast where I share with you divine truths that will help you or somebody else that you know receive deliverance from oppression, from demonic oppressions. Amen. Last time we were looking at this subject - can demons enter Christians, can demons enter Christians? And we were able to do part one, so today I'll be in part two, part two of the same. So in our last teaching, just a little recap here. You can go listen to it among the series that we are having here.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

We looked at the constitution of the body of a human being, that is, we have a body, soul and spirit, and where the Holy Spirit dwells is in your spirit man. The enemy attacks at the body and soul level. We also looked at the difference between being possessed and being oppressed by the devil. And then we looked at the scripture, our anchor scripture there, which was first Peter, chapter five, verses eight and nine, where Peter clearly warns and prepares Christians, not unbelievers, christians and he said be sober and be vigilant, because your enemy, the devil, like a roaring lion, he moves around, walks around seeking whom he may devour. So the devil moves around with his demons. They have instructions to look for a particular kind of Christian. And you have to understand when you come to faith, when you are a believer, you become a special target of the enemy. But you don't have to be afraid, because the devil cannot devour all. He has to look where he can devour. There are some places he cannot. All right. So this that's what we are aiming at as we are studying, so that we can be armed with the truth. Know your enemies, as we said, we have to know the truth, know who we are and know our enemies and know how to deal with the enemy.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

Now, remember, we only read verse eight of first Peter chapter 5. We didn't read verse nine. So I want to continue with that so that we can pick up from there and see. So, first Peter, chapter five, first Peter five, and we had read verse eight. Today I will add on verse nine and then continue from there. He said be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary, the devil, walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Now verse nine resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same suffering I experienced by your brotherhood in the world. Powerful addition there, peter says resist him. Okay, so you have a part to play. The demons will come, spirits will come, evil powers will come, but you have a part to offer resistance.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

And this is what I was saying the other time. If you don't believe you can come and attack of the devil, then you will take everything the enemy throws at you. You will not give the fight. You have to take your stand. Stand like Paul says in the book of Ephesians. He says put on the whole armor of God. That's your part. I have to do that. I have to put on the whole armor of God, you know, and then stand, and after you have done everything, stand. You know that's what we are here for.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. All these are warnings in the word of God. Why the warnings? Because there's a danger. Why the warnings? Because we have an enemy. We have an enemy and that's why we have. We have to share this truth. That's why we have to build ourselves in the word, in the truth, so that we can take our stand against the enemy and put him where he belongs. He knows where he belongs. But if you don't know, you won't keep him there. And so Peter says resist him steadfastly. Being steadfast, that means you don't give in, no matter what. Resist him steadfastly, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood all over the world. Okay, you're not the only one who is fighting. We are at war, beloved. We have a war with an enemy who has sown, wanting to destroy us. See, Jesus said that the thief comes not but to steal and to kill and to destroy. But I have come, that they may have abundant life and have it more abundantly. Glorious. We are supposed to celebrate. We live in victory. We enforce the victory of Calvary, the victory that Jesus has won for us. So you see, that's our part, alright. So let's continue. We look at another verse. Today. I want us to go to Ephesians, chapter 4. Very important scripture Ephesians, chapter 4 and verse number 27. Ephesians 4 and verse 27.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

This is now Paul here from verse 26. He has been giving a number of do not, do not. He's talking about anger. How to control your anger, you know. And then I'll read verse. Okay, I'll read verse 25. That way you can follow. Verse 25, 26 says, therefore, putting away lying. Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor, for we are members of one another. Verse 26,. Be angry and do not sin. Let not the sun go down on your wrath or anger. Verse 27, nor give place to the devil. Nor give place to the devil. Other version he says and do not give a foothold to the devil. Don't give him a foothold, beloved. Why would Paul or the Word of God speak to us in those terms?

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

Don't give the enemy a foothold. It means simply that there is a way that you and I can conduct ourselves. There's a way that I can do things. Leave my life and I leave the enemy a place, a stepping stone, a place to come in and step into my life and oppress me. Trust me, there are many, many believers who open the door, we give the enemy a foothold, a stepping stone, and he is a malicious enemy. You give him a footstep, he takes a whole mile. You give him a small place, an inch, he takes a whole mile, a whole kilometer. He does not know how to take small. Then he goes and even brings others. He goes to seek reinforcement. He loves to seek reinforcement so that he can take possession and oppress and continue to oppress and oppress. Feel like you're really being oppressed, literally. That's the work of the enemy. So when the Bible says do not give a foothold to the enemy, it's because there is an opportunity, there's a way we can open the door for the enemy.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

Now we'll come and cover later in our teaching series how, some of the things that you can do, because I hear somebody is asking oh, share with us, tell us, how do we open the door, how, how have I been? Could I have opened the door? How can this have happened? You know? So we will look at that. This is not the subject of today. Today we're just looking at can demons enter Christians? That's what we're basing ourselves, because we said the answer to this question will will determine the position that you take against your adversary.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

If you are in one of those churches or denominations where you are taught you cannot come under the influence of the enemy, then you will attribute everything that is coming on you as your fate. You know, and the devil loves that. The devil loves for you and I to believe. First of all, he wants people to believe he doesn't exist. That's what he wants us to believe that there is no devil. Okay, and for those who believe there's a devil, he wants to believe oh, once you are saved, then your bone again. That's the end of the story. You have no more dealings with a devil. No, the devil comes. He wants to oppress, okay. So let's look at, let's look at different scenarios.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

I was reading and studying some books by from Brother Derrick Prince and they're very helpful books. They show us the different scenarios. They say suppose somebody was a, somebody who was a Christian, somebody was a not a Christian, somebody was a devil worshipper, for example, or a witch, a witch, a witch doctor involved in satanic rituals, and all that. And then they come to faith in Christ, they believe and they give their lives to Jesus Christ. Well, does that mean that at the time of their regeneration and the time of being born again, they are done with the devil? You know, the truth of the matter is they are not, because they will have to deal with those powers of darkness. The spirit man has been born again. So now the spirit becomes alive, it's conscious of God, and the Holy Spirit's work is to begin to point out and to show areas of life where this believer needs to take action to resist the devil.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

Remember, our part is to resist. Our part is to take a stand against the enemy. That's your part, that's my part as a child of God. So when you are born again, suddenly you are conscious. You are conscious of some of the things that you are doing. They were wrong, they were not right. You need to take a stand. If there are demons, you bind them, you tell them to leave you, you dissociate yourself and we'll see some of this. If you were involved in some things and you opened the door, maybe you have a demon. We will share that later. We'll teach that about open doors. I want you to see the work of the Holy Spirit at regeneration. H begins, to show you how you can break free, where you can tell the enemy you have no time for him. A good example here is my stepmother. Let me bring in my stepmother. My really mom died long time ago, 1985. Okay, but my dad got married to to my present stepmother I'm speaking about.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

She's still alive, an old lady, maybe in her late 80s, but before my stepmother came to know Jesus Christ, she was, she was a witch doctor. She was involved in occult from a generation where she had inherited demonic powers to cure diseases and she became famous. I've listened to her testimony so many times. I've even recorded the testimony. It's in my phone. I've kept it with me. But she was so famous, she was so powerful, she had seven demons that were using her in the occult to provide cures, to provide paraphernalia to people, and she became famous. But one day she met the Lord. Hallelujah, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, and she was gloriously saved. Maybe someday I'll have an opportunity to share some of her testimonies. But she was saved. And when she got saved her spirit was released from captivity. She became a child of God.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

But then she still had to break down those forces to completely set herself and dissociate herself. And she said she took believers to her home and they went to burn witchcraft. And she didn't know about binding, she didn't know about casting out demons, but the Holy Spirit was speaking to her some of the things that she needed to do. And they went and they gathered all the paraphernalias, all the pots and all the things that she was using and put up bonfire, set up a bonfire and burnt everything in the name of Jesus Christ. Some of the paraphernalia, she told me, were jumping up, they didn't want to go into the fire, crying out please, don't burn us, please. And the Christians took to courage and said you have to go, you have to burn. They burnt all that in the name of the Lord. We serve a living God. Your God is above all witchcraft. He is above. If you are a child of God, oh, we have power over the enemy. Don't you fear, don't you fear the enemy. So she had to burn, she had to take a stand. What am I saying here? I'm saying we have our part to do and her part. She was shown by the Holy Spirit. Once her spirit burned, was regenerate, suddenly she realized what she was doing was wrong and she has to take a stand against the enemy. If she didn't do that, she would have continued with operation, should have continued the operation.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

The very interesting case of a man in the book of Acts where Philip the evangelist went into a bridge in the city of Samaria. So Philip was doing miracles and there was a sorcerer there whose name was Simon. He saw what Philip was doing and he became a believer, this man. Even though he became a believer, he still had some hang ups. He still had some, some demonic. I don't think he had done all, dissociated himself from the devil. But he was a child of God, he said. And Simon himself believed.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

But we see something funny when Peter and John came and started laying hands on believers to receive the Holy Ghost, he asked, he gave them money. He started to bribe Apostle Peter and said give me this power also, so that whoever I lay hands on may receive the Holy Spirit. Of course, peter apostolically diagnosed this money, said your heart is not right with God. You still have a problem. Repent. Repent of this, your wickedness. They see that you are still. Peter says you're still. Oh, you see, I don't know. Let me go there. Let me go there. Peter says you are bound by bitterness. That's what this man. You are bound by bitterness. Peter says you are bound by bitterness In verse nine of Acts, chapter eight.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

But there was a certain man called Simon, who previously practiced sorcery in the city, astonished the people of Samaria, claiming that he was someone great to whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying this man is a great power of God. What kind of deception. Verse 11. And they heated him because he had astonished them with his sorceries for a long time. But when they believed Philip, as he preached his things concerning the kingdom of God, the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized. Then Simon himself also believed and he was baptized and he continued. So Simon himself believed, he was baptized and continued with Philip and was amazing, the miracles and signs which he did.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

Jumping to verse nine, verse 18. And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles hand, the Holy Spirit was given, he offered the money, saying give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit. But Peter said to him your money perish with you, because you thought the gift of God could be purchased with money. You have neither part, no portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of God. Repent, therefore, of this, your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you. Verse 23 is what I intercede For. I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity. See, the guy was still bound. He was born again, but he was still bound. So there are people who are born again, but they still have bondages which need to be broken. They are believers, yes, but they still need to be broken.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

It's a beautiful imagery that comes out when you go to the account of Jesus resurrecting Lazarus. It's just coming in my spirit. When Jesus was resurrecting, he called Lazarus. Lazarus had been buried for four days. Jesus appeared in the tomb. That's in John, chapter 11, if you want to go read it yourself.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

Jesus called Lazarus. Lazarus come forth and we're told. And the dead man came out, bound with the grave cloth, his mouth, his eyes, his hands, and he came out, jumping up out of the grave. He came out and then Jesus says lose him and let him go. This is a very beautiful imagery. I'm just using it as an imagery. I'm not saying that's the one we should interpret it, but it's a beautiful image.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

Lazarus was dead. Then he heard the voice of Jesus. Just like those who get born again, they hear the voice of the Lord and their spirit man comes alive and they come and say we are being told to be born again. You are passing from death to life. It's death to life. It's a resurrection. You are passing from death to life.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

And here is Lazarus. He has come out of the grave, but Lazarus is still bound with the grave cloth. It's a beautiful image. It is things that still bound us when we were still living in the kingdom of darkness, living amongst the dead. We're told that if we were dead in our trespasses, so the things that were binding us, they are still there. So it is the work of church, is the work of Christ, the work of you and I as a child of God, to set the captives free, lose him and let him go. We're supposed to go in and break those bondages. That's why we are sharing this truth Break these bondages, set men free. That's the work of the church. That's the work of you and I as believers. That's why I'm coming to you, because we will agree in prayer. We will break bondages. We have to so apart, so apart, to do that, amen, so apart to do that. How can a man get into the stronghold of a man In a strongman's house? Jesus was asking, unless first of all he binds a strong man, then he can plunder. We have to plunder the enemy.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

Somebody may be born again, but he had a demon of anger. A demon of anger. You're angry. Your anger is just, we all get angry, but you're angry is not normal. And a brother who was the wife was saying to him say, oh, this man gets angry and when he gets angry he can destroy stuff. Went to visit another brother many years ago, many years ago, and where he was dealing with the children. Wow, I saw for no whole. That's not right. That's not right. That's not right. Okay, he's a spirit, there's a spirit in there. That's not normal. See, the rest of the time the guy is good and then all of a sudden something happens and and and it's like he's a possessed man. Then he comes back to his hands. He tries to say sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, brother, sorry, sorry brother. I lost it, I lost myself. Oh no, it's a demon spirit. So unless you identify that, that I have a demon, I have a spirit. That's the way I was. But I need to be set free, I need to be delivered. Then you will take your stand. You now know the truth. You will take your stand against the enemy. Tell him you have to leave me alone, you have to pack your things and go See.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

So asking how can this man be having an unclean? Because demons are called unclean spirits. They're evil spirits, they're unclean spirit. And people ask how can, how can a Christian have an unclean spirit? Pastor, you're teaching heres it. How can a Christian have an unclean spirit? Can the Holy Spirit stay in a man who is unclean? You see, that's the objection. Those who object that Christians can have demons, as I say, that's an unclean spirit, how can he stay? The Holy Spirit is a clean spirit. How can he stay In a man who is unclean? But when we study the word of God, beloved, we see even believers, other believers. We can prove that from the word of God. Let me use this example of David. Next time go sit in Psalm 51.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

Now, david had sinned with the wife of somebody else's wife, uriah's wife. Remember? David saw a woman, beautiful woman, as she was showering and she allowed her eyes. She took too long, you know, and she went down saying who is wife? Who's woman is that? She was told. This is somebody's wife, this is Uriah's wife. He died and he sinned for the woman and he slept. David was the king and he could order anything he ordered for the woman. The poor woman had no choice. He came and he slept with somebody else. That was adultery. First of all, he committed adultery and then the woman said I'm pregnant, I'm pregnant, I have a child, I'm with a child. He sent a message to the king God tell the king, I'm with a child. And David arranged for the murder. First of all he tried to lie bring the husband back home. The husband refused to go sleep. He was trying to conceal his conceal, his sin, and Uriah went back to go and he arranged for Uriah to be killed in the war. And then he took over somebody else's wife. So you can see David had committed a series of sins there. First of all he converted somebody else's wife, he committed adultery, he lied and then he also murdered evil sins. He took somebody else's wife this is my wife Now. He managed to cover the sin before men, but the scene was not covered before God because he had not repented.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

We are told, nathan the prophet came and confronted David. He told David you have sinned. We know the story in Psalms 51. We see how David is confessing a broken man. He said I have sinned. And this may have taken a long time because, we are told, the child was already born. The Uriah's wife came, stayed, the child was born. We don't know how all the child could have been two years before Nathan came and confronted the king and David said I have sinned. Now David was convicted because he had the spirit of God.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

Now what I want you to see is look at verse 11 and 12. Do not cast me away from your presence. This is Psalms 51, verse 11. Do not cast me away from your presence and do not take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and uphold me by your generous spirit. Hallelujah, See, david is is telling God, is as he's praying and confessing and praying before God.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

He's saying God, god, he says do not take away your Holy Spirit from me.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

Look at that.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

David was unclean.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

David was a murderer.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

David had fallen. He had committed an adultery, committed murder, he had lied, he had converted somebody else's woman, a tenth, tenth commandment, broken so many commandments. And yet he doesn't say give me your Holy Spirit. He says don't take away your Holy Spirit. See, and to God, god is that gracious. You can have, you can, you can have sin in you. But then the Holy Spirit is there. He is grieved. He says do not grieve the Holy Spirit, but he is there, he is in us. The Holy Spirit is still in you. He's waiting to convict you, because David would not have confessed the sin to ask God for forgiveness if he didn't have the Holy Spirit.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

And we see here he is asking for restoration, not of the Holy Spirit but of the joy of your salvation. Because if you have concealed, if you have not confessed your sin, you can't be happy. Your sin will always remind you until you confess it. Whoever confesses his sin, he shall find mercy. If you cover your sin, you will not prosper. That's Proverbs 28, verse 13. So confess your sin, don't hide it. You can't enjoy a work with God if you have hidden things, sins.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

So David saying don't take away your Holy Spirit. See, beloved we, we are not perfect, but God, god is still. The Spirit of God is still in us. So we can have uncleanness, we can have the devil attaching himself to our bodies. Our spirit is still having the Holy Spirit, but the enemy will oppress us from the outside. If you read that Psalms 51 closely, you will see David saying my sin was like rottenness in him, he was being oppressed, he had oppression. You read it, you will see it. Oh, really Okay. So see, the Holy Spirit will still be there, even in the presence of some uncleanness. Okay, an unclean spirit can be there, but the Holy Spirit will be there.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

Let's take an example. Last example here. This example we have in Jesus' teaching in Mark chapter seven. All right, mark chapter seven, mark, chapter seven. You see Jesus talking about uncleanness there. Uncleanness, and this is what he says in verse 20. Okay, that's 20. I'll take that.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

And he said what comes out of a man that defiles a man? For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, phonications, murders, faiths, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness All these evil things come from within and defile a man. You just go look at that list of what Jesus said and tell me if you know one Christian who can't fall into one of those traps Evil thoughts, deceit, thefts, adulteries, wickedness, blasphemy, pride. You know, foolishness, you know I don't think I can claim to be clean out of that. And yet the Holy Spirit of God still dwells in me, but lightly and calmly, speaking to me and pointing out areas that I need sanctification. So what am I saying, beloved? I'm saying you know, say you can, because you have the Holy Spirit. Other things cannot be there. No, the Holy Spirit is in. He's our helper, he's our gentle helper, he's the one to help us and to lead us into a life of victory. God is not waiting for us to be completely victorious. No, he sent himself. He sent his spirit to come and entail us as our helper. Then show us how to take our stand and enforce the victory of Calvary against demons.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

So we are trying to answer this question Can a Christian come under the influence of demons? Can they be? Can demons come in and influence believers? It's a very important question to answer. You can see, the answer is yes, because we have to resist the devil, we have to give no place to the enemy. That's what we have been sharing here. Let me just go to one, only one more influence, very bad influence the enemy can have, you know and we'll close with that today and this one is in 1 Timothy, chapter 4, verse 1. 1 Timothy 4, verse 1.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

They are Paul is saying the Spirit clearly says that in the end time, some will depart from the faith and follow deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons. Wow, they will. This is the end. It was talking about end times, our time, the time that we are living in, that there will be such deception. The devil will pour out such deception into the world, deceiving spirits. They will be released on the last, the days we are living, and he says the Spirit was clearly telling Paul in the last days some will come under this influence. They will give heed, they will listen to these demons and the demons will attach themselves in their minds, in their decision making process. They will accept, they will be possessed by these deceiving spirits and they will depart from. That's the one.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

It's even better to have a demon of sickness, because even if you die of a sickness, you go to heaven. This is a bad one you get. You listen to false teachers, false teaching, demonic teachings, and you come under the influence of the. They attach themselves in your mind, in your decision making process and you depart from the faith, you depart from the truth and follow deceiving spirit People who are under cultic influence. They have a demon. They need deliverance. See, they do things and you wonder how can they do that? How can they do that? How can they follow that man? How can they see? See, they are blinded. They are blinded by the enemy and so they are doing things they don't know of, because now they open themselves.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

Jesus said in Matthew 4, verse 24,. He says take heed how you listen, be careful who you listen to See. So we can, we can be deceived. These are believers. Besides, they will depart from the faith. In other words, they were in the faith. Now they are departing from the faith.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

In other words, believers can have demons enter them and we have people who are bound, people who are, who are deceived, people who are oppressed, and it is our part as the church, it's our part as people of God, to set the captives free, to tell the enemy you must go. So we're having this, sharing this truth, so that we can have people delivered, we can have people set free, amen. Well, that's all we have for today, but I want, I want to to to allow you a moment where you can join me in a prayer of agreement. Say how do I pray? I need prayers, I need deliverance, I need healing, I need help from God. Yes, yes, I remember every time I say I have created a video specifically for that that you and I can come together long, say together and pray in agreement. Jesus said in Matthew 18, verse 19,. And and if two of you shall agree as touching anything that they shall ask it shall be done of my Father in heaven. We are not the ones to do it. Our part is to agree and I want it to come alongside me.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

Go listen to that message. It's time for your miracle. It's in this series so you can look for it. It's the first one. I put it as a first one because I knew I'll be directing people there. Go listen to it. Listen and say, oh, pastor, I've said no, no, listen again. Go listen.

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia:

Faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God. Hear and hear until enters your spirit, until you agree, because I put my faith there. I believe God for miracles. I believe God, people will be touched, people will be healed, demons will will let people free, because it's the word of God. So go pray with me. Agree there, listen, agree and pray again. Pray again. Do your spiritual work, do your part. Let's resist the enemy, let's put him where he belongs. I believe God will give you a miracle.
