Dealing With Stubborn Demons- Causes Of Deliverance Failures (Part 5)
What if you could unlock the secrets to overcoming even the most stubborn spiritual challenges? In this compelling episode, we dive into the biblical account from Matthew 17, where Jesus' disciples struggled and failed to cast out a demon from an epileptic boy. We dissect their failed deliverance session and extract crucial lessons that can enhance your understanding of faith and persistence. From grappling with the issue of unbelief to understanding the hierarchical nature of demons, we provide actionable insights to help you achieve greater success in freeing your loved ones from spiritual oppression.
Ever wondered why prayer and fasting hold such transformative power? Drawing from Jesus' guidance to his disciples, we explore how essential spiritual disciplines like prayer and fasting can align us closer to God's presence. By reflecting on Jesus' own prayerful life and his expectations for his disciples, we uncover how these practices can empower us to overcome significant spiritual hurdles. The discussion emphasizes that becoming more Christ-like through these disciplines is not just encouraged but necessary for overcoming the spiritual battles we face.
Journey back to the early church as described in the Book of Acts, where we see the apostles' unwavering dedication to prayer and its powerful impact. We challenge the modern church to emulate this commitment, showing how fasting can enhance spiritual clarity and draw us nearer to God. The importance of individual faith and action in the deliverance process is also examined, urging us all to become a prayerful community. Join us as we uncover these spiritual truths and strive to build an effective, prayerful church that echoes the divine power of the early believers.

Hey, welcome to this healing and deliverance tool. My name is Dr Gilbert Muchi and I'm honored and delighted to share the Word of God with you. In a moment, you will join me in the sanctuary so that we can continue with our teaching dealing with stubborn demons. Hey, have you been involved in a deliverance session where demons refuse to come out? Or maybe you witnessed one and you are left with questions. Maybe you have your loved one and you want them healed. Well, the disciples of Jesus Christ were involved in a deliverance session and the demon refused to come out. When Jesus casted out that demon later on, the disciples of Jesus asked him privately why could we not cast out that demon? Well, jesus used that to bring a teaching, vital truths which we are trying to learn so that we can know reasons why some demons won't come out. Not only that, we also want to get to answers. What do we need to do so that we can have more success and see our loved ones released from oppression? Well, join me into the sanctuary, let's share in the word of God and at the end of the teaching, I will be back with some concluding remarks. So don't go away so that we can finish up together For the moment. Let's get into the sanctuary. See you there, hallelujah. So thank you so much for tuning in to this teaching.
Speaker 1:We continue with our teachings which we have been sharing, concerning dealing with stubborn demons. How to deal with stubborn demons? Now go to Matthew, chapter 17. We'll read that story short and form. We've been in Mark, chapter 9. A shortened form We've been in Mark, chapter 9, but it's the same account. Matthew has a condensed version of it and what I want to share is all here. So it's good. Matthew 17, verse number 14.
Speaker 1:And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to him, kneeling down to him and saying Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers severely, for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. So I brought him to your disciples, but they could not cure him. Jesus rebuked the demon and it came out of him and the child was cured from that hour. Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said why could we not cast it out? So Jesus said to them Because of your unbelief. Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, move from here to there and it will move and nothing will be impossible for you will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting. May the Lord bless his word. So we have covered a number of things.
Speaker 1:We saw how Jesus came down from the mountain of transfiguration. He found the disciples in an argument with the Pharisees and a crowd, and he asked them what's going on? And a man showed up and said Master, lord, I brought my son to you for healing and your disciples to your disciples, and they could not cure my son, who is epileptic. And so in this case we saw here was a deliverance session which had failed, a failed deliverance. And anybody who has been involved with dealing with demons and praying for the sick and all kinds of stuff you will encounter certainly I have encountered many, many times situations like this. You deal with a demon and it doesn't come out. And so the question was asked by the disciples when they came back privately. They wanted to find out Lord, why could we not cast out that demon? Why could we not cast out that demon? Okay, so in essence, it showed Jesus used this to teach some very vital lessons, and many of those we have already covered, so I won't go too much back because I want to cover something today. But we saw the reason.
Speaker 1:Number one was unbelief, unbelief, and we have to understand what unbelief is. Unbelief is not absence of faith in Christ. Okay, it's not absence of faith. You can be a believer, you believe in the Lord, you believe in Christ, but you have unbelief. So unbelief is completely different. How did we learn this? When the father of the boy asked the Lord, lord, if you can do anything, help us. And Jesus turned it over to him and said if you can believe, all things are possible to him that believes. And the father of the son cried out and that's a very important scripture. The father of the boy cried out, I believe. So he was a believer, he believed, he believed in Jesus' ability, but he was honest that there is something he was struggling with and that was unbelief. We finished that and that lesson is powerfully available. You can go and review that. So the problem of number one was unbelief. Review that. So the problem of number one was unbelief.
Speaker 1:We went to the second problem and it's about demons' power, that there are some demons that have higher power than other demons. Not all demons are the same. Understand this that demons are personalities. They are persons, but without bodies. They are disembodied personalities and the persons are not of the same strength. If you take my strength and you get a strength of a boxer, we are all persons, but I don't have the same power or strength with somebody else who maybe has been exercising. And demons are arranged in hierarchy and we saw in the other lesson how there are demons which are more wicked, more stronger, and this demon which the disciples were dealing with was a strong demon, was a strong demon, was a strong demon. Now, it doesn't mean that some demons are stronger than us, because the Bible says greater is he that is in us than the one that is in the world 1 John 4. So there is one who is greater in us, but their demons are stubborn. There are demons which are stronger and they are stubborn and they don't come out easily.
Speaker 1:We have faced that a number of times in our deliverance meetings. When we have conducted them Number three we saw one of the reasons why our deliverance can fail is that there is lack of persistence in those who are conducting deliverance. Okay, that sometimes we think that we will just command a demon and the demon lives and sometimes it does. Some weak demons will come out, but there are demons which are stubborn and resistant and strong. We looked at the example of Jesus commanding the demonic, the gathering demonic, and he told the demons to come out and they didn't come out. They started bargaining with him until he asked him how many are you? And I don't want to go into that. You can go and learn that.
Speaker 1:The thing is that there is need to persist and we took our key word where Paul says we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against powers and principalities and the rulers of the darkness of this age. So we are in a wrestling march, so we have to wrestle. Sometimes we have to pin down the enemy. Pin down the enemy. We continue wrestling and some people who have had a long drawn wrestling with demonic powers, eventually the demon gets worn out and it has to leave. So we have to be ready to persist and fight, all right.
Speaker 1:So I want to go to the fourth one today, fourth reason which I want us to look very closely and understand why we fail, why there is failure in demonic deliverance, why we have some stubborn demons not coming out. And reason number four is deficiency in spiritual discipline. Very, very important. This is on those who are conducting deliverance, those who are ministering to the people who are demonized, who are under the influence or power of the enemy. If they are lacking in spiritual discipline, then there is going to be some failures.
Speaker 1:Remember when Jesus came in and the father said that what is going on? And he said I brought my son to your disciples and they could not deliver him. Jesus lamented, jesus was disappointed. He says how long shall I be, how long shall I be with you? Oh, faithless generation? He cried out. And he said how long shall I bear with you? Yes, two questions. You, faithless, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? In other words, jesus expected the disciples to be able to deal with that, but they were lacking and of course, they were very embarrassed that the master expected them to have dealt with that demon. Okay, and so where we have read today? So where we have read today in Matthew 17, verse 19,.
Speaker 1:Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said why could we not cast it out? This is a question we have to ask Anytime we fail. It is not wrong. The disciples asked the Lord, they wanted to find out why are we not having success? Why didn't we succeed and beloved? This is what I'm going to share. It's very, very vital in the process of us being a church that God intended. So I beg you, as you are listening and going with me in this study, this is probably one of the most important things that we have to learn of all that. We have been covering reasons why we fail. We have said deficiency in spiritual discipline.
Speaker 1:So when they asked Jesus, why could we not cast it out? Why could we not cast it out Verse 20, so Jesus said to them because of your unbelief. Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to the mountain move from here to there, and it will move and nothing shall be or nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting very important. They asked the master Lord, we failed. We want to know why. Why could we have gone out? We have casted many demons. You sent us out and I showed you in the scripture. They were sent out and they did it, and they brought a report back. Oh, lord, oh, even demons were subject to us in your name and it told behold, I have given you power and authority over all the powers of the enemy To trample on snakes and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. I'm quoting Luke, chapter 10, verse 19. That's what Jesus told them. I have already given you power, you have it, so go ahead. So he expected them to use that, but then they failed. And so they asked him Lord, we don't understand.
Speaker 1:The other time we went. It worked so well, we healed the sick, we casted out demons, but this time it didn't work. What was the problem? But this time it didn't work. What was the problem Then? He tells them the problem is you did not have the faith required. He says if you have faith the size of a mustard seed you will say to this mountain that was just proverbial, it was used as proverbial.
Speaker 1:But the second statement is what he intended them to say. You will say to this mountain be removed from here, be cast into there, and it will do exactly that. And the important statement is that nothing shall be impossible to you, beloved. The church has struggled, we have struggled to believe that, but Jesus meant exactly that he wants us to be able to come to a point that really nothing is impossible for us. Do you think that he meant what he said? He meant it. He said it is possible that you can come to a point that nothing shall be impossible. And then he adds something very important. But however, this kind comes out, not by prayer and fasting. Therein Jesus points the problem of the disciples.
Speaker 1:Now, remember, jesus had gone to the mountain for three days and he was transfigured there with three disciples and nine were left down. Now it looks like these guys, when they were left behind, they abandoned some spiritual discipline and they were just eating and eating and not praying and all that. And I told them why that demon didn't come out was because you guys were lacking in prayer. When we went up the mountain, you guys were just busy talking to the Pharisees oh, the master has gone, he has taken three of his closest friends, and so you were just waiting, you just stayed along, and so there were two areas that they were lacking in. Area number one was prayer. Now I need you to understand Prayer and fasting. Those are two different aspects. Each and every one of them is important. They were lacking in prayer. Now understand this. I don't know I'm being drawn very far away, but just take this point. It's very important, point is very important.
Speaker 1:There is one thing oh Lord, help me here. There is one thing that the disciples noted about the life of Jesus. They saw that Jesus was a man of prayer. We learned that, okay, he was a man of prayer. He prayed in the morning. He prayed overnight prayer. He prayed almost when he has finished feeding the 5,000. He goes to prayer In the morning, he wakes up to pray. Jesus was a man of prayer and they came. So they noted that one of the things that is different with this master is that he is a man who prays. He is a man who seeks the presence of the Father. And so, because they were disciples, they were supposed to follow the example, to learn from the example. They were supposed to be men of prayer, but they were lacking in prayer. So it looks like the three days when Jesus was away, these guys didn't pray, they just waited for the masses. Well, he tells them, this kind can come out, not but by prayer and fasting. Wow, wow, prayer. How much can we emphasize about prayer? Prayer is so central Because when we pray, we rub the presence of God, the fragrance of Christ. We become more and more like Christ when we abide in the place of prayer. And boy, did the disciples learn this lesson? You bet they did.
Speaker 1:If you go to the book of Acts, you will see what the early church did, they practiced. This is something that, if we want to see, let's go to the book of Acts. The book of Acts when the church was born, acts chapter 2, verse 42. When the church was born and started, we are told how the early church behaved. Let me just read verse 42. And they continued steadfastly in their apostle's teaching, the apostle's doctrine and fellowship in the breaking of bread and in prayers. The early church was a praying church. They continued in prayer. If you go ahead to chapter 4, you will see them praying and praying and praying and praying. They lifted up their hands before God and prayed together when they were being threatened. They were a praying church.
Speaker 1:But I will skip and go and read verse chapter 6. If you get to chapter 6 of the book of Acts because I'm running out of time, chapter 6 of the book of Acts you will see at this time the church had grown and there were some murmurings that are beginning. Some widows were being neglected, they were not getting their rationing, they're not getting their food. Chapter 6, verse 1, acts. Chapter 6, verse 1, it says now, in those days when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a complaint against the Hebrews by the Hellenists because their widows were neglected in the daily distribution. Verse number two.
Speaker 1:Then the twelve this is what I love. Then the twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said it is not good that we should leave the word of God and serve tables. Therefore, brethren, seek out among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. Look at verse 4. Over this business, look at verse 4. But we will give ourselves continually to prayer and the ministry of the word. You see it there, the early church, instead of getting distracted. The apostles did not want to be distracted by serving tables. The enemy was trying to bring in a distraction, but they knew if they were going to be successful in the mission of the church, in the mission to be what the church is supposed to be, they have to be men and women of prayer. And they said we are not going to neglect what is important. Please choose some fellows to take care of the tables, but we ourselves, we ourselves, we will give ourselves continually to the ministry of prayer and the word of God. The early church was a praying church. No wonder they witnessed power. No wonder they were.
Speaker 1:If you go to Acts, chapter 3, I mean if you read the book of Acts, you will just see it's full of prayer, prayer, prayer, people praying. Acts, chapter 3, we are told, peter and John were headed to the temple at the hour of prayer. There it is again. They were going to pray and then they saw a cripple. And because they have been men and women of prayer, they knew the Lord had already taught them that there are some problems. You can only deal with them if you are men and women of prayer and of fasting. They looked at each other hey, john, look at this cripple here. We can't just walk in. What did the Lord say? And you know the story.
Speaker 1:They commanded the cripple in the name is a silver and gold. We don't have, but what we have is what we give to you in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Rise up and walk. He said we don't have money, but we have power. We have the name Today, the church has money. We have everything. When we look at some of the buildings we have, some of the properties that we have the cameras that run around to capture us, oh, we are so blessed In the altar. There is no power. There's no power. There's no power, and we don't want to hear this because we are condemned but beloved.
Speaker 1:If we are going to see what the early church saw, we have to listen to the master and do what the early church did. If we are going to see what the early church saw, we have to do what the early church did. They are a blueprint and we are told they used to bring the sick from all over. They gathered demon, possessed people and draw them and bring them to Jerusalem, just for one thing, just in case the shadow of Peter I have shared it the shadow of Peter will touch one of the people.
Speaker 1:Where is the church today? Where is the church today? Has God changed? No. Have demons changed? No. Have sicknesses changed? No. But what has changed is us beloved, it's us, the present church. And this is not to condemn you, brother, it's not to condemn you, but it is to stir you and to stir me that we may take the reins of the altar and ascend into the mountain of prayer, mountain of prayer and seek God and pray like Jesus prayed, and pray like the early church prayed, and then we will see what Jesus said. We will see. It's just that there are no two ways. Otherwise God will be unfair to demand them to do that, and then he doesn't demand of us. We want the easy way out. Hallelujah. Let's be men and women of prayer. Do we want to see the sick healed? Do we want to see people being delivered? Do we want to see power against the enemy? Then let's be in the presence of God. The apostles healed the cripple.
Speaker 1:The Pharisees said they took note that these men have been with Jesus. Acts, chapter 4, verse 13. That they took note that the apostles they looked, these guys are unlearned fellows and they are so bold. What is the difference? They have been with Jesus. Have you been with Jesus in your prayer room, man? If you take time in prayer, you will start smelling Jesus. Remember, it's like a kitchen. If you work in the kitchen long enough, you come out and you start smelling like kitchen. Hallelujah, you smell. Now, that's just prayer.
Speaker 1:But there is the other aspect. Oh, pastor, don't go there, I will go there. Jesus didn't say prayer again alone. He said that you guys were lacking not only in prayer, but you are also lacking in fasting. What is fasting? Wow? So there are some demons that will only respond to us when we engage the spiritual discipline of fasting.
Speaker 1:Now I will teach about what fasting is all about, but I want to mention a few things as I go to close, about fasting, and then we will come to dig deeper into details, because this is an important aspect. Fasting is literally just denying yourself food. It's just food. It's not about water. Fasting is denying yourself food. When Jesus fasted for 40 days, the Bible says in the end he was hungry. It doesn't say he was thirsty, but it says he was hungry. Okay, so fasting literally just means denying yourself food for purposes of spending time in the presence of God and seeking God. Now let me mention four things about fasting, and then we'll close there, and then we will pick that, because I want us to be able to learn some things that come through this discipline of fasting Discipline, practicing prayer and also practicing fasting.
Speaker 1:Somebody was asking me what happens when I am fasting, but I haven't had enough time to pray. Now don't be condemned. Prayer is prayer. Fasting okay. Most of the time when you are fasting, you will use the time when you will be eating because your stomach is going to remind you, your hunger pangs will remind you. You will use that time when you will be eating because your stomach is going to remind you, your hunger pangs will remind you. You will use that time to pray. But even when I have not been able to get as much time as possible for me to pray when I am fasting, I don't get myself condemned over that. Why? Because I know these are too deep. Even when I am fasting, there is a message that I am sending to my body and there is a message that is going in the spiritual reign.
Speaker 1:Number one about fasting fasting does not change God, but it changes us. Not change God, but it changes us. Okay, fasting does not change God. We don't fast in order to bend or to amputate God, in order for him to do things for us. That will be a wrong motive. What fasting does? Because God does not change. His mercies are forever, he's always ready, but God has principles. Fasting changes us. Fasting changes you. I think when we finish, you will see how it changes you. Number two fasting intensifies prayers. Number two fasting intensifies prayers. Okay, you can pray. It is okay to pray. It is okay to pray. Be a man of prayer, be a woman of prayer, it is okay to pray. But when you fast, your fasting intensifies In the spiritual realm. There is an intensity that is added in your prayers. We could go to many examples in the Bible. We don't have time to go to those, but just know we'll look at them, like in the book of Esther, we'll go there, we'll learn. But fasting intensifies your prayers, okay, intensifies your prayers, okay. Number three fasting is an expression of humility before God. Fasting is an expression of humility before God.
Speaker 1:I'm going to read of Abbas in Psalms 35. Psalms 35. David, this is David. Here. David says in Psalms 35, david, this is David. Here David says in Psalms 35,. You will see there he says verse 13,.
Speaker 1:But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth. I humbled myself with fasting and my prayer would return to my heart, would return to my own heart. I'm interested in the phrase there where David says I humbled myself in fasting this flesh. We are in this body and this body loves this world. It loves food, it loves the pleasures of this world. When you deny yourself, when you set yourself out and say I want to spend time, I want to take away from my meal, I will deny myself lunch, I will deny myself dinner, I will deny myself breakfast so that I can spend more time in prayer, what is happening to your body? You are sending a message to your own body that there is something more important to you than just fulfilling the desires of this flesh. Many of us, many of us, don't really fast, but when we come to learn I think next week I'll teach some things about fasting you will see that we are expected to fast. God expects you and I to be fasting. It's important, right, and we'll teach some principles that will guide us in this aspect of fasting.
Speaker 1:So fasting is a point of humility and there is something about humility that attracts God. I'm telling you, god loves a humble heart. He says humble yourself before the mighty hand of God and he will lift you up. Humble when you humble yourself, god loves you. Be blessed at the poor in spirit, for they are the children of God. They shall be called sons of God. When you humble yourself, you attract God. They shall be called sons of God. When you humble yourself, you attract God, you attract the presence of God in your life. When you spend time in fasting and prayer, you yourself, you will feel it. The body will be weak. There is an aspect of the presence of God that you will enjoy, you will enjoy. There is something aspect of the presence of God that you will enjoy, you will enjoy. There is something coming in your spirit. So fasting is an expression of humility.
Speaker 1:And number four fasting makes the soul more sensitive and responsive to the spirit in you. Fasting makes the soul more sensitive and responsive. So, important thing, you become very sensitive to the guidance of the spirit and also your soul responds more easily. So fasting makes the soul more sensitive and responsive to the Spirit of God in you. Remember, the Holy Spirit dwells in our spirit, but we have the soul, and your soul is your mind, your emotion and your will. Your mind, your emotion and your will, that's your soul. And then the flesh has these five senses. It's the one that makes us conscious of our environment. Your eyesight, your ears, your taste, your touch, you know all these feelings and the hearing. Okay, five senses, that's your flesh. And then your soul is your inner man, and then the most inner man is your spirit. When you fast, the body becomes weak, but then the soul is strengthened and it becomes very sensitive to the voice of the Spirit within. Fasting helps us to hear God more clearly. We separate ourselves from the presence of this world and all its demands and all its wants and everything that is around us, and we are spending time in the presence of God. We are able to hear God better, hear God better when we are in fasting.
Speaker 1:Now I know there is so much to deal with about fasting, but I have to share one more. I will teach one more thing about dealing with the stubborn demons. One more thing before we go into teaching about how do we then pray and fast. All our teachings have been on concentrating on us as the deliverance ministers, concentrating on us as the deliverance ministers, but now, in the coming teaching, we will look at what about the one being prayed for? What about the one who has a demon? Is there a part they play in the deliverance that is being conducted? Okay, so all we have said is unbelief. We have said wrestling, we have talked about fasting and prayer. It's all about us. But is it all us. No, there are things that can also hinder a delivery session that are related to the one who is being prayed for. That will be our next teaching. We want to learn. We want to be an effective church. We want to practice things spiritually so that we can begin to see the workings of God. We'll see you in our next teaching. May the Lord bless and keep you. Amen. Hope you are learning and receiving something from the word of God.
