Welcome to our time for the word Go to John, chapter 4.
Speaker 2:John, chapter 4,. We will read from verse 46 all the way to 54.
Speaker 1:As we look at these scriptures the heading that I'll be using is believe his promise is believe his promise we will encounter a father who is in a disparate situation and he needs help, and he needs it urgently. And as we learn and look at this man, there are several things that we'll come across which are very, very vital lessons, even for us today. And the first thing that I want us to have and understand is that life challenges come to everyone. Challenges come to everyone. We are introduced to a man and we are told two things about this man which are very important. Let me mention them here. He is called a noble man. We are introduced, we are told he is a noble man. If you read other versions, they will say he was a royal officer, a royal officer or a government official. So this was a high ranking person working in the palace. Actually, he was working in the palace of Herod Antipas. It was Herod Antipas who was the king at that particular moment. So this was a guy who was a notable man. He was a guy who had money. He was a guy who was respected in the society, very close to the king. Okay, and beyond him being there, we are told he had a son. He had a son who was sick, and this son was sick to the point of death. Look at that, here is a man who has money, who has fame, who has all to do in the society, but he has a problem. Why? Because challenges in life come to everyone, irrespective of your status. Whether you are learned or unlearned, rich or poor, we all go through challenges in life, and so this guy comes in. First of all, we are told he had about jesus. So I'm going to my second point there. First of all, we have challenges. We all have challenges, irrespective of who we are. Okay, he had. He had a child who was very ill. You can be sure he used all the money he could to try and help his son to be healed. It took him to the best doctors of the day. It took him to the best hospitals of the day. Maybe the doctors had given him a last word and said sorry, we are not able to help your son. Go, take your son home, let him live the rest of the days with you, because he's going to die. And then we are told the second thing that he heard about Jesus. He heard that Jesus had come back into Galilee. He had come back into Galilee. He was away in Judea, but then he had come back into Galilee and he heard about the miracles which Jesus had done. He knew about the water turning into one, but he also heard about the miracles that happened while Jesus was out there in Jerusalem.
Speaker 1:Beloved, this is where I wanted to see how faith develops. How faith develops. How faith develops Because we all go through these stages, and the first stage of you developing faith and getting help from God it begins by hearing. What have you heard about Jesus? What have you heard about Jesus? What have you heard about Jesus? All right, there are things that you have heard about Jesus from the word of God, but there are also things that you have heard about Jesus, even from testimonies online. All right, listen to me, beloved, listen to me. God's people, all right, all right, listen to me, beloved, listen to me, god's people. You have heard. You watch YouTube videos of miracles, people who have received miracles, people who have been healed, people who have been helped, and they are giving praise to God.
Speaker 1:The other day, I was being sent a testimony of how somebody was given up by the hospitals and the doctors say there is nothing that we can do for you, go home and die. And that woman refused to die. She said no, I will do something, I will get into prayer, I will do this and this. And God turned the situation around and she continued to live. Now. This is what is important.
Speaker 1:So we are told here. We are told that this man heard about Jesus. He heard Jesus had done this and this Jesus had healed the sick. Jesus had done this and this Jesus had healed the sick. Jesus had done miracles and he made up his mind that I'm going to go to Jesus Christ. I want us to be encouraged by knowing that when you hear testimonies of what God has done for others, don't be discouraged because your healing or your miracle or your answer to prayer has not come. Don't be discouraged. What you hear, what God has done for others, is meant to encourage you, because we serve a God who works with his own time. We serve a God who is able to do what he has done to others. He can also do it to you and me. Why? Because the Bible says God shows no favoritism. What have you heard? That Jesus was back in town verse 47, when he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee. He went to him and implored him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. That's where we are, that this man made up his mind that I'm going to go and seek Jesus. I'm going to go and ask him Lord, come and help my son, come and heal my son. And before I forget this point, let me bring it over here so that all of us can get it.
Speaker 1:It's not about you crying for help for yourself, but you can also go to God. You can also pray to God because of somebody that you love. Here is a father and he is asking for help for his son. Do you have a loved one that you see he needs help, that you see he needs a miracle from God? Then you decide I'm going to go, I'm going to seek. He made up his mind that I'm going to seek help. He has been helping others. I'm going to seek help for my son. You can pray for your mother. You can pray for your mother. You can pray for your wife. You can pray for your children. You can go to God on behalf of those that you love. Let's not forget that.
Speaker 1:So he believed that Jesus had the power to help his son and he also believed he wanted Jesus to come to his hope, his desire. He just believed that if I can bring Jesus right into my house here, maybe he will pray. If you read in the Gospel of Mark, this miracle happened after the healing of Peter's mother-in-law. Okay, peter's mother-in-law was sick Maybe we'll come and study that at some point and Jesus just lifted her up from her sickness and the fever left. So Jesus had done miracles miracles. That's why I'm right there at the miracle. Jesus had done miracles. That's why I'm right there at the miracle. Jesus had done miracles. What miracles have you heard Jesus has done? They are supposed to kindle faith in us. All right, so he had, and he believed that Jesus was able to help him.
Speaker 1:Now I want to draw your attention to something very, very important here. Go to verse 47 with me. Look at verse 47, where we have read there's something that it has to come out, because if we miss this, then we are missing some of the ways that God helps us. Look at verse 47 with me. When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to him and implored him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. Now, that word implored, that word implored, it means to beg, it means to dishonestly, to continuously. You know, there's some things that we miss. All right, because if you read that, if you read that where we have just read the New King James Version, you will think that this man went and talked to Jesus and said oh Lord, please come and heal my son. Please come and heal my son, that he is sick. No, the word means begging. The word means to be honest, to continuously. In fact, let me read for you. I said this, I thought you would like to hear it from the Amplified Version. Let me read from the Amplified Version, verse 47. Because the Amplified Version brings out some of the meanings that we lose in the process of translation.
Speaker 1:Okay, having heard that Jesus had come back from Judea into Galilee, he went away to him and here it is. Okay, having heard that Jesus had come back from Judea into Galilee, he went away to him and here it is and began to beg him to come down and cure his son. Oh, I got to slow down there, beloved, I got to slow that, so we don't make. He began to beg him. So it was a continuous exercise. He may have gone to Jesus and said Lord, falling down, a whole noble man, a whole respected man falling down and begging, and begging, and it was not once. I don't know whether it was a whole day, maybe he got him during the morning of the day and he continued up to 1 o'clock he was still begging. Lord, come down, lord, come down.
Speaker 1:I don't know whether you're getting it. Let me read it again. From that same verse from the ISV. I don't know whether I have it here. If you read from the ISV, you will see. It says there it says very clearly it was a repeated action. I don't know whether I have ISV International Standard Version. Yeah, I got it here.
Speaker 1:Let me read from the International when this man heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and asked him repeatedly to come down and heal his son because he was about to die. Did you hear that? Did you hear that? Did you hear that what I just read? He says he went down. Let me read it again. I am reading. I am not lying, I am reading. You have a Bible. You have an online Bible. This is international standard version ISV. He says he went to him when he, this man, heard that Jesus had come down from Judea to Galilee. He went to him and asked him repeatedly to come down and heal his son because he was about to die. So you see that he asked him repeatedly. So he goes. Oh Lord, lord, please, heal my son, please, let's go, let's go to my house. My boy is about to die. Jesus maybe didn't say anything. Jesus kept quiet, but he came back again. Lord Lord, my son, my son, please, please, please, lord, please, please, lord, please, master, I need a healing. My son is about to die. He did it repeatedly. He did it repeatedly until Jesus said you guys, unless you see a miracle, you won't believe.
Speaker 1:Why am I belaboring that point? Why am I belaboring that point? Why am I belaboring that point? Beloved? It's because somehow we have been taught to believe. All I need to ask God is once Now, as we study the scriptures and the healing miracles of Jesus, there are some truths that will come out.
Speaker 1:There are some principles. These are principles. These are things that work in the kingdom. This is how God works. We are trying to milk out truths that others have used so that we know this is the way God wants us. So we have been taught. All you need is to pray. So we have been taught. All you need is to pray. All you need is to tell God once when you have prayed about something once, then that's it. If you go pray again, then you do not have faith. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Speaker 1:Jesus had this man repeatedly asking him why let's try to answer why didn't he send the word immediately? I want you to know Jesus will test the faith of everyone. Let me say that again. Jesus will test your faith, will test my faith and see whether we believe that he is able to give us what we are asking of him. Let me say that again you are God. Oh Lord, help me.
Speaker 1:God tests our faith. He wants our faith to develop. He wants to see our seriousness. He wants to see that we believe, we believe and believe that there is an answer. I'll point out to you. I'll point out to you do you know, if you are really convinced that the issue you have, that the problem you have, that the miracle you have, if you are really convinced that the God of heaven is able to change that situation, you will not be discouraged, you will keep going on and on and on. And that is what I want us to see here that this man, continuously he implored, he begged, he beseeched, he besought him. Lord, please, lord, please, heal my son. He was not even asking, he was saying let's go home. He believed Jesus had to be there personally. Let's go to my home, please. My son is about to die. He is so desperate. I want my son. You can imagine how we feel desperate when we have our loved ones sick, when we have our child sick. So get that point that God wants to see our faith, that we take the first step, we believe he has an answer, and then he wants to see whether we are determined, by testing our faith, to go before him and implore. If you don't get an answer the first time, go again. If you don't get the answer the first time, second time, go again, go, go, go.
Speaker 1:Let me ask you a question why did God ask Joshua and the Israelites to go around Jerusalem sorry, to go around Jericho for seven times? Every day, once, once, and on the seventh day they go once and they go twice until the seventh time. Beloved, they are mysteries of God. God will look at. When are we going to be discouraged? Joshua could have said I mean, we have gone around this city for six days, not a crack. We are not even seeing a crack, a sign like there is anything that is happening. We have gone on the seventh day. We have already gone five times. We have already gone the sixth time. Nothing has happened. Beloved, this is the mystery of the workings of God. We are not seeing the workings of God because we think that God will work differently with us. No, god is still the same. God has principles and as we look and learn from God, we will see these principles coming out again and again. All right, let me go to the next point and I'll be winding up here.
Speaker 1:So we read Jesus lamenting and saying verse 48,. Then Jesus said to him unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe. It wasn't a compliment, okay, it wasn't a compliment. Okay, it wasn't a really compliment. But he was telling his people you guys are so much into signs and wonders and that's the generation that we are living in we all want to see miracles. We all want to see miracles.
Speaker 1:Well, what if God doesn't do miracles? Because God is. He wants us to be after him, not after miracles. We are not chasing for miracles. We believe he is a miracle worker. But God does not want our focus to be just on miracles, miracles, miracles. There is something more. What if he doesn't do it? Do we change? We have to reach a point, like Shadrach, meshach and Abednego, where they reached and told the king we know that our God is able to deliver us from the fire furnace and from you, king Nebuchadnezzar. But even if he does not, we want you to know that we will not bow down to the idols. We will not worship Neither do we do anything. We worship the living God, and that's it. That is where God wants us to rise, that is where God wants our faith to be. That it is nothing to do with miracles. So Jesus says unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe. Now he's addressing everyone, not just the man here.
Speaker 1:And then verse 49,. The noble man said to him sir, come down before my child dies. All we are seeing there is like this man is telling Lord it's taking so long. I have been here with you, I have been crying, but I'm not going home. I'm not going. Please come with me. Maybe he had come with a horse, a horse specifically for Jesus to ride and take him. He had told his relative I'm going to go get Jesus, I'm going to go get the Lord to come and heal my son. I know he will heal my son. Something very important happens here, verse 50,. Jesus said to him go your way, your son leaves. Go your way your son leaves. Go your way, your son leaves. So the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and he went away For me. That is the key verse to that section.
Speaker 1:It is the key verse to that section that this man, jesus, does something beyond what this man was asking. This man was asking for Jesus to go with him. You know he said Jesus, come with me, Go with me to my house, come under my roof and maybe lay your hands on my child, maybe heal my son and my son will be well. Please, let's go before it is too late. Before the child he had faith for a child to be healed, but he didn't have faith for any resurrection, because maybe Jesus had not done any resurrection. So we can't blame this man. So he said go your way, your son lives Now. He wants Jesus to go with him. And Jesus said you go, you go, your son, don't be worried, don't be anxious, don't be anxious about this, your son will live. Wow, wow, wow. So here we see Jesus doing something that is beyond what this man was asking. This man was asking for the Lord to accompany him, and the Lord gives him a promise, he gives him a word, he gives him a word and say you go your way, your son lives.
Speaker 1:You see the progression of faith. Now he came believing Jesus was going to help him and his faith developed, he demonstrated his faith. I want you to see that, please, please, I beg you, my listeners who are listening, I want you to see. He came believing that jesus was going to help his son and he drove or he rode his horses maybe 20 miles. A capen home where he lived was about 20 miles or so from Galilee. So he came for 20 miles one day journey to come and look for Jesus, and he wants to take Jesus for 20 and other miles to go and heal. Now he demonstrated his faith. First of all step number one he left home. He knew there was help for his child. Step number two how did he do it. He continued to pray, he continued to implore, he continued to cry out to Jesus Lord, please go for my son, please come home, lord, help my son. That was his second step demonstrating his faith, son. That was his second stable demonstrating his faith.
Speaker 1:Now Jesus challenges his faith. Write right on down. Jesus challenges his faith by wanting to see whether he will believe a promise you can write on down. Jesus challenges his faith by wanting to see if he can take his faith to the next level and believe a promise. And believe a promise. Will he take the words of Jesus? Because he came, he wanted Jesus to go with him and then Jesus said you go, I have already. Your son is okay. Will he believe? Will he believe that promise of the Lord? And I love what I see with this official. I love what I see with this official, I love what I see with this man.
Speaker 1:The Bible says well, we have just read it. So the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and he went away. Hallelujah, hallelujah. He believed the word, he believed the word, he believed the promise, he believed the words of Jesus, my God, that is the challenge of faith that we have to face. Beloved. That is the challenge of faith you and I have to face, beloved. That is the challenge of faith you and I have to faith. Will you take Jesus at his word? Will you take Jesus at his word? Will you believe what Jesus has said? Because he has said go, ah, ah.
Speaker 1:Look at the steps of getting a miracle. First of all, all you believe the word that jesus says, and then you have to act on the word. You have to act on the word. Listen, you have to hear the word of jesus, the promise of the lord, and then you have to act on the word. How do we see an action there? We are told the man believed what Jesus said and he went his way.
Speaker 1:Faith without action is dead. Faith without works is dead. Faith without works is dead. Don't say I believe God is going to do this. Now, what are you doing about what you believe? What are you doing about he believed and he walked away? Oh, he didn't have Jesus coming back with him to his house, but all that he had was a promise of Jesus. All that he had was a promise of Jesus. When you have a promise of the Lord, when he promises, and you embrace that promise and you believe that promise and you take necessary action. Hear me, beloved, it activates the miraculous. It activates the miraculous. The spiritual realm is moved when we demonstrate our faith, that we believe that God has said whatever he has said.
Speaker 1:We are always singing here Say yes to your promises. When he says yes, I will say yes. What you have promised, I will say yes, I will believe it. What you have said, it is done. We have just sung here about we need a miracle. You are a miracle maker. When you say promises, I will say yes. That's what we are talking about here, beloved. It is about you and I. It's about you and I hearing the words of Jesus, hearing the promise of the Lord and receiving that word. And let me say this Sometimes in our lives you pray, you ask, you implore, and the only thing that God gives you is a promise. The only thing that God gives you is a promise. He says I will heal you, I will bless you, I will do this and this and this. And so the challenge comes. Will you believe that word? Will you hold on to that word? Maybe I'm speaking to you, maybe you had something God say to you, maybe you had a promise and all you have is a promise from God Beloved, that promise that you are holding on. Hold on to it Because, we are told, as the man was going back home, as the man was heading back home, he was met by his servants.
Speaker 1:He was a rich man, he had servants. He was met by his servants and the servants told him your son leaves. And he asked him when did he start becoming well? When did he start recovering? And you have to understand, if you read the original, it was not an instantaneous miracle, it was a progressive miracle. When did you go? When did he start? And they say the fever. When did he start? And they say the fever left him at 1 pm. It was actually 1 pm, it left him at 1 pm.
Speaker 1:So, beloved, what have you had from the Lord? We want to get into our time of application. What has God said to you? Maybe you had a voice from God, maybe you had a promise from God? You entered into a time of prayer, into a time of indecision, into a time of seeking God, and God spoke to you a word, god gave you a promise. Oh, I want to tell you today, whatever God says, you can take that to the bank. You can believe it. God will activate that when he sees you still believe the word, you're still holding on to the promise of God. You will be healed. Pray for somebody.
Speaker 1:As we close, I want to pray. Maybe you have a promise of god, maybe you have had a word and you're saying it is. You had jesus saying to this man go, your son leaves, and you're feeling, oh, that's me right there, that's me. Close your eyes wherever you are, unless you are driving, of course. But if you are driving, don't close your eyes wherever you are, unless you are driving, of course. But if you are driving, don't close your eyes. But I want to pray, lord, wherever my hearer is.
Speaker 1:Whatever they want some new Lord, let them hear your voice, let them receive a promise. Let them know that the world that you release is able to bring healing in their body, healing, healing in their lives. Change, lord. Maybe you have a family issue, maybe you have a financial issue. Maybe you have a career issue and you believe in God. Oh, pray with me, father, let your voice, let the promise that you gave to your servant, to your child, lord, come to pass. Lord, I pray that you will do a miracle, a miracle to my hearer to the glory and honor of your name. In Jesus' name, we pray Amen, hallelujah, amen. God bless you. We will see you again in our next teaching, as we continue to look at the miracles of Jesus and learn vital lessons for us today. God bless you, amen.
Speaker 2:Hope you are learning and receiving something from the word of God, something from the word of God. Well, that's all the time we have for the moment.
