The Triumph Of Hope And Faith

Dr. Gilbert Mwachia

What if your deepest struggles could be transformed through unwavering faith? Join us as we examine the poignant story of the woman with an issue of blood, taken from Mark 5:25-34. Discover how her 12-year battle with pain and loneliness culminated in a miraculous moment of healing, all because of her unshakeable belief in Jesus Christ. Learn valuable lessons on perseverance, faith, and the triumph of hope, as her story serves as a powerful testament to the transformative power of steadfast belief, even in the midst of prolonged hardship.

In this episode, we explore the broader impact of Jesus' miraculous healings and the power of vocalizing one’s faith. Inspired by events from Matthew 4, we discuss how Jesus' actions instilled hope in the multitudes, and emphasize the spiritual law of words through references to Proverbs 18:21 and Mark 11:23. The woman's faith-filled confession, believing that touching Jesus’ garment would heal her, highlights the significance of aligning our words with our beliefs to receive divine intervention. This chapter stresses the importance of declaring one's faith aloud as a vital step towards experiencing miracles.

We then delve into the rich symbolism of the hem of Jesus' garment within Jewish tradition, exploring how it embodies the essence and authority of the wearer. By connecting this to the story of Ruth and Boaz, we gain deeper insight into the woman's act of faith and her recognition of Jesus' messianic identity. Despite societal taboos, her determination to seek healing from Jesus underscores the immense power of faith and acknowledgment of divine authority. Speaker 1:

Hallelujah. So welcome again to our time for the word, and I want to begin sharing with you on the miracle, the healing miracles of Jesus Christ. They are powerful lessons that we can draw there. We know that that's one of the things that God wants us to do, and so we will look at different sessions not in any chronological order, but as they come in my spirit. I will share with them. And today let's go to Mark, chapter 5, from verse 25. From verse 25, we will meet a woman here, this familiar passage of the woman with an issue of blood. Mark, chapter 5, we'll read from verse 25 to verse number 34.

Speaker 2:

So let's read together Now.

Speaker 1:

A certain woman had a flow of blood for 12 years and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better but rather grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came behind him in the crowd and touched his garment. For she said, if only I may touch his clothes, I shall be made well. Immediately, the fountain of her blood was dried up and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction. And Jesus, immediately, knowing in him that power had gone out of him, turned around in the crowd and said who touched my clothes? Who touched my clothes? But his disciples say to him you see the multitude thronging you and you say who touched me? And he looked around to see who had done this thing. But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before him and told him the whole truth. And he said to her daughter your faith has made you well. Go in peace and be healed of your affliction. May the Lord bless his word. I want to share with you on this subject a subheading the triumph of hope and faith. The triumph of hope and faith.

Speaker 1:

Now, when we look at this passage which we are well used to many who have read the Bible know about it the woman with an issue of blood. She had a struggle for a long time, 12 long years and when we look at this we come to see a situation where somebody is struggling and showing us some of the things that we ourselves struggle. We are involved in different kinds of struggles, struggles in our lives, and so there are a number of lessons quick lessons I want us to receive, because there's a reason why this incidence was recorded in the scriptures. We are told there are a number of things that Jesus did which are not recorded. If everything was recorded, the world will not have enough space to keep or to hold the books that will be written. But then these things that are recorded, they are to help us. So we are told of a woman. She had an issue of the flow of blood. We are not told where the blood was coming from, but then we are also informed how long this woman had suffered to draw as we looked at this incidence is waiting in hope. A woman who is waiting in hope in the midst of her struggles, in the midst of her pain, in the midst of her struggles. So we see 12 years of hope, twelve years of waiting, twelve years of struggle, of pain. What was she suffering from? She suffered from pain. We know that wherever you are bleeding, wherever there is bleeding, there is pain involved. So she had pain.

Speaker 1:

Not only are we informed about her pain, we are also told the disappointment she suffered, disappointment in the hands of many physicians, in the hands of many physicians. She went from one doctor to another and her situation, instead of getting better, it was getting worse. Her situation was growing worse in the midst of trying to get some help from the doctors. Now you have to understand the kind of doctors that they had in those days. It's not the doctors we have today. All right, some of them were just superstitious doctors. Maybe she was being told okay, come to me, your problem you have, I'm able to deal with it, and maybe she'll be given instructions or some contortions of roots and trees and you go and do this and do this, and she does it in the hope that she will get relieved of her suffering. But instead of it getting better, we are told it grew worse. So she suffered disappointment. Look at the disappointment you have. Maybe you have a problem, you develop a disease problem and you think that in one year it's going to be over. And then the year is gone, and then the second year, and then the third year. By the time you get to the fifth year, seventh year, I'm sure, by the time of tenth year, many, many people would have given up. They will accept that this is my fate. This is my problem. I will live with it.

Speaker 1:

So she suffered disappointment from doctors, disappointment from not getting healed, disappointment of seeing no change, and instead of seeing change, she sees her situation deteriorating. Not only that suffering, she also suffered loneliness. Right, there was the pain of loneliness when you had an issue of blood. In those days you were unclean. And when you are unclean you had to be separated from other people because you will make them unclean. And every time you come close to anybody you have to start shouting unclean, unclean, so that they can keep a distance from you. If she was married before she became sick, her husband will have to divorce her because otherwise her husband will live with the same uncleanness. So you can imagine the loneliness, the pain of being left by your relative, being ostracized. You are cursed. You have a sickness that is making you perpetually unclean as making you perpetually unclean. So she suffered loneliness.

Speaker 1:

But what we see about this woman is that she never gave up. She never. She still maintained the hope that in the midst of suffering, in the midst of pain, in the midst of disappointment, that maybe someday my day is coming. Now what else do we see? The waiting of 12 years. We also saw, we see, as we were reading, that she used up everything she heard with doctors. So she was reduced to nothing. If she had any savings, if she had anything that she had saved for, she used to fight the disease, to fight the affliction, to get her back into the society and being accepted in the society like any other person. Every time she went to a doctor, the doctor promised that what I am giving you, this is what is going to help you. But it never helped. And the Bible says she used everything. In other words, she was reduced to zero financially, to zero financially. Where she was that there's no man who could help her, except a miracle will happen. Now she has no money, now she has no finances to help herself. Only a miracle will help her situation. And you have to understand. Sometimes we come into those situations where we are, our lives are reduced to nothing, that there is nothing else we can do.

Speaker 1:

Where you have I don't know whether I'm speaking to somebody who has been fighting something, maybe you are. Maybe your situation is an issue of your health Right, you have struggled. I'm talking about the struggles of life. You have struggled to get healed. You have struggled. You have tried this, you have tried that. You have been told this and you have been told that and you are still hanging in there.

Speaker 1:

We are talking about the triumph of hope. As we see this woman we are being told for 12 years. That shows she still maintained the hope that there is going to be a change. Maybe your struggle is in finances. It may not be a health issue, but you are struggling to make it financially. You are struggling to break through financially. Maybe your struggle is in your career. We are people who are struggling to settle down in their career. Maybe your struggle is in your relationship. Whatever kind of struggle, we have different kinds of struggles that come in our lives. Beloved, we all struggle. We are all struggling with something. Maybe your relationship is deteriorating, maybe with your husband or your wife, and you see, you are trying to make your marriage work. You are trying to make your marriage stand up, but instead of it getting better, the situation is getting worse and worse and worse. I want to show you today it is not over until God says it's over. Hallelujah, it is not over. Maintain hope.

Speaker 1:

Why we are being told about 12 years of waiting is because this woman was in the midst of a struggle, was in the's. Because this woman was in the midst of a struggle, was in the midst of pain, was in the midst of disappointment, was in the midst of being left alone, ostracized, confused. Maybe she had a really hope in a big doctor who was claimed to have the cure or the ability to help and solve the situation, but instead of getting help, her situation grew worse. So there's confusion and beloved. When you are in the midst of a struggle, sometimes you are confused. What's going on? Why me, why now, and why this? We all have our struggles and why this? We all have our struggles.

Speaker 1:

So the second thing we see here not only did she wait in hope, but the second thing I want us to learn is that she heard about Jesus. You see that she heard about Jesus. That's what we have just read. When she heard about Jesus. She came behind him. She came behind him and touched his garment. So what did she hear about Jesus Beloved? This is very, very important in our dealings with our struggles. How do we approach the struggles that we have? What did she hear about Jesus?

Speaker 1:

Well, jesus was casting out demons. Jesus was healing sicknesses, that the sick were coming, they were being healed. Wow, somebody went and told him oh, there is a man from Nazareth. There is a man from Nazareth. He goes into the synagogues and demons start coming out. The sick come and they are healed. I mean, I could take you to the scriptures and you will see the kind of things that were happening before this woman came into the scene. Like, if you go to Mark, chapter 4, you will see the sequel coming from all directions. Let's go there, mark, chapter 4. Sorry, not Matthew chapter 4. Sorry, I'll go to Matthew instead of Mark. All right, matthew chapter 4, you will see a description of Jesus. All right, it's also in Mark, chapter 1, but I like the way it comes out in Matthew.

Speaker 1:

Okay, and Jesus went about all Galilee teaching in their synagogue. Jesus went about all Galilee teaching in their synagogue preaching the kingdom of God and healing all kinds of sicknesses and all kinds of diseases among the people. Then his fame went through all Syria and they brought to him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics and paralytics, and he healed them. Great multitude followed him, from Galilee and from Decapolis, jerusalem, judea and beyond the Jordan. Listen to that. So that's the message.

Speaker 1:

That's what she heard about Jesus. She heard that there is a man of Galilee, people are bringing in the sick, the sick are going, and the word was he is healing all kinds of diseases and all kinds of torments and demons are coming out. That's what the woman had. What do you think came out of her when she had that? And that, hey, I have suffered for long, I have been sick for long, but then here is a man who is healing. People are going to him and they are getting help. She must have said to herself and this is what we are being told. Let's go to the third thing that we learn here, we have to learn today, is that she confessed with her mouth what she will believe will happen to her. Very, very important principle here. We have shared this in the past, but we are bringing it so that we can have light and understanding. We are told.

Speaker 1:

When she heard about Jesus, when she heard about Jesus, she came behind him and touched the hem of his garment. She came behind and touched the hem of his garment and the clear word is there written. Why is it written? For? She said to herself, I love the word of God. Everything that is written is written for a reason, not because there was nothing else to write. It is for us to learn. For, she said to herself, if only I may touch the hem of his garment, I will be made whole Hallelujah. Let's not forget this beloved. This is the law of our words. This is the law of our words. She confessed, she believed that she can get help. Okay, I'm going slowly. So now we know she believed. If Jesus, if Jesus has been helping other people, me too, I can be helped. He has compassion and I will go also and he will help.

Speaker 1:

And she began to say to herself listen, there's a Proverbs 18,. We have shared this in the past, but let's bring it here Proverbs 18, verse 21,. It says what Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat the fruit thereof. Death and life are in the power of the tongue. You have to confess. Amen. Thank you, dear. You have to confess. You have to say what you believe. It is the law of the kingdom. That is an unchanging law. Speak it out. Whoever shall say to this mountain Be removed and be cast into the sea, and shall believe, and no doubt, that whatever he says Will be done, he shall have Whatever he says. Hallelujah. You know, it's the law of words.

Speaker 1:

Mark, chapter 11, verse 23, is the law of words. It is the spiritual law. It is what God works with, and so we are. It is recorded in the scripture so that we know. Other people have received help by aligning themselves with how God works. Other people have received help from above by aligning themselves with how God works. And I want to say this because I have said it and I will keep saying it If your confession is this way and you are expecting to have it this way, it will never work. God just doesn't work like that. God respects the words that come out of our mouths. This is not about name it and grab it. It is a spiritual law. I wish I could emphasize it over and over, but I can't. It is a spiritual law.

Speaker 1:

So that's the third thing that we learn that this woman, this woman made a confession, made a confession with her mouth what she believed will happen to her. Yes, it says if only I like that, thank you dear for bringing it. If only I may touch the hem of his garment. If only I may touch the hem of his garment, I shall be made whole. Now let me bring you a revelation, this one I just learned during my study. Let me bring you a revelation.

Speaker 1:

Why the hem of his garment? Why did she come to touch her garment? I never knew this. I thought that all along. I had thought in my life that she was coming hiding behind. That's what I thought that she was coming hiding behind so that she could touch the hem and disappear and go down and notice.

Speaker 1:

Until in my studies I came to learn there is something very important in the Jewish tradition. There is something very vital about the hem of the garment. The hem of the garment write down if you are writing. The hem of the garment symbolizes what it is, a symbol of what the man is. Wow, the hem of the garment. Even the priests were being told when they make their robes they had to attach some tassels, special tassels on the hem of it. So the hem of the garment is very. I don't know whether I should go there, but maybe we'll have somebody who wants to learn a little bit deeper. So the hem of the garment represented what the person was. Your garment was your wings. Okay, oh God, where am I getting this? I have to. I have to.

Speaker 1:

The example of Boaz and Ruth. If you go to Ruth, chapter 3, you will see Ruth came when she came and she hid under Boaz. When Boaz woke up, she told Ruth, please, because Boaz, who are you? And she said I am Ruth, your maid servant. Please spread your garment or spread your wing, that is, spread your authority. Oh my goodness, I don't know that. Spread your authority over my life, cover me. So she wanted the hem of the garment.

Speaker 1:

I will take you to Malachi because I didn't want to go there, but my wife has brought Malachi. Malachi is the last book in the Bible in the Old Testament. All right, in the Malachi chapter, chapter number three, go to Malachi. No, the last chapter, actually chapter four. Malachi, chapter four. I'm sorry, malachi, chapter. No, the last chapter, actually chapter 4. Malachi, chapter 4, I'm sorry, malachi, chapter 4, verse 2.

Speaker 1:

You will see something there about the prophecy of Jesus. This is the last prophet wrote in the Bible about the coming of Jesus. Look at verse 2. This is what he says but to you who fear my name, the son of righteousness shall arise with healing in his wings and you shall go out and grow fat like stall-fed calves. Now here is the key here, that the son of righteousness if you're having New King James or King James or older version, you will see it is in capital letters. It is referring to the Messiah. It says then, unto you who fear my name, the son of righteousness shall arise with healing in his wings.

Speaker 1:

Now, that word wings, that word wings, is actually garments. No, you're not getting it. You're not getting it. You're not getting it. You're not getting it. You're not getting it. That word wings is the same word, is the same word, which means the garment. So the garment, this woman. So it was already prophesied. Oh Lord, I'm getting too deep and I hope I'm not confusing people here. Okay, I'm facing people here. Okay, all along, hear me, all along, the Jews knew that there is a Messiah that has been prophesied who will come and he will come with healing on his garment. He will come with healing on his garment, his wings the same word for wings. I challenge you, go and study that word wings, what it means, you will see. It talks about the garment. It talks about the end of the garment.

Speaker 1:

So what did this woman hear? This woman heard that there are people, there is a man from Nazareth who people are touching, are touching his garments and are receiving help. We believe he is a Messiah. We believe he's the one who was spoken, who was spoken in the Old Testament. The Messiah has come. So she heard about Jesus.

Speaker 1:

You remember people like Bartimaeus when they heard about Jesus? You remember people like Bartimaeus when they heard about Jesus, when Jesus came, what were they saying? Jesus, son of David, have mercy on us. What were they saying? They were saying you are the one who was prophesied. Now, I don't want to spend too much time here Now. Here is the revelation so that you can add it and marry it together. So this woman, oh Lord, I just hope everyone will get this. I just hope everyone.

Speaker 1:

So this woman, when she said if I only touch his garment, I shall be made, she was saying I have identified Jesus as the promised Messiah, as the son of righteousness who shall come to those who fear God, the son of righteousness, and he will come with healing in his wings, he will come with healing in his garment. And so she came in and her act of going to touch the garment. She was saying you are the Messiah, you are the promised one, you are the son of David. I have come for my healing. And what did she think you did? She got a revelation and she actually pulled out the healing Wow, wow, wow, my God, my God, I hope you got that. I didn't want to go into those depths, but it's all right, it was brought up. So we see. So the third thing she confessed with her mouth. Let's go to the fourth one.

Speaker 1:

The fourth thing that we learn from this woman, which we must also employ when we are seeking help from God in our struggle. Whatever struggles we have, we must employ the same. This is number four determination to get to Jesus. Her determination, her determination to get help from Jesus. How do we know? She was determined. Yes, she pressed through.

Speaker 1:

The first thing that we know we know that this woman was an unclean woman. She was not allowed to come in the midst of a people, in the midst of a crowd. She was not allowed to come anywhere close to people because she will make other people unclean. But what did she do? Do you know? There's a time when you have a problem and you know where your help is. You know where your help is. It doesn't matter what people say, come on, come on. It doesn't matter what people say. It doesn't matter what people will call you. They can say what they can say. You can make everyone unclean, but you want help and you want it badly. No matter what, you will go for it. I'm feeling like preaching here. I'm feeling like preaching here. Right, you don't care. You know this guy is carrying my help. I know Jesus has the answer and I will go all out to get what I need from Jesus. Hallelujah. That is number one. She was an unclean woman and she came into the crowd.

Speaker 1:

The second thing on that determination is that she is a woman who has been bleeding for 12 years. In other words, she was years. In other words, she was weak. In other words, she was anemic. She was afraid. When you bleed for 12 years, beloved, when you bleed for 12 years, you are white your skin. We check you and we see oh, my goodness, you don't have red blood cells, you could fall down Even when you start.

Speaker 1:

You know where anybody who is anemic. When they start to exercise a little bit, they are panting, they are breathless, they can't, they feel like they are falling down. Why? Because they do not have enough red blood cells to carry oxy into their muscle. See, they are frail people, they are weak people, they are almost dying people.

Speaker 1:

Oh, but the woman, the woman knew her help, her help was there and what did she do? Maybe she was, and we are told she came in the crowd. People will push her like she was almost falling down, but she will pick herself up and she is going and pushing the people, making everyone unclean, because she was pressing for an answer, that's the word. She was pressing to get an answer from God. She wanted to be healed so bad.

Speaker 1:

And that is the determination that we see in the woman. She was determined. She was determined, hallelujah. Do we see that determination? Are we determined today? Are we determined? Do we see that commitment that I know? And I know that no man can help me. This problem, I have this struggle, I have this sickness, I have this pain, I have this career I have. It's only God that can help me and you begin to press it. It's only God that can help me and you begin to press it. You begin to press it, you want to touch, you want to identify yourself with Jesus, hallelujah. Oh, let's listen to the last one. Here I have what is the fifth thing that we learn, and this is that faith draws the power of God. Faith draws out the power of God. Beloved faith in God will draw out the power of God.

Speaker 1:

So when the woman comes and touches the garment, what happens to Jesus? Virtue or power comes out of him and he feels in his body something has just happened and he begins to ask who touched me? And the disciples are almost mad with the Lord. What is wrong with you? Everyone is thronging you, people are thronging you and touching you all over and you ask that who touched me? How can you ask such a question? Everyone is touching you.

Speaker 1:

But he knew there was somebody who touched him with a touch of faith. And when the woman realized she cannot hide Somebody who touched him with a touch of faith, and when the woman realized she cannot hide, the Bible says she came and told the whole truth. That's why we have it recorded, because Peter had it, john had it, everyone had the testimony of this woman that I have been sick for 12 years and I heard about you. I knew you were the son of God, I knew you were the Messiah and I just said in my heart I don't even need him to touch. Oh, my goodness. I don't need him to pray for me, I don't need him to say a word, all I need is to touch his garment. All I need is to touch his garment. All I need is to identify that. This is the son of righteousness who was cutting with healing in his wings and he is cutting my healing. Oh, my goodness. Thank you, baby. She touched the right place. She identified the prophecy.

Speaker 1:

What was said about Jesus? He said I came behind because you have been prophesied and you have demonstrated it to others. If you have healed others with your garments, I too will get my healing. And I came and it happened. Exactly what am I saying? Jesus didn't say a word to this woman before her healing. All she did is that she believed, and when she believed, she confessed what she believed. And not only that she put her faith into action. That's where we fail. Did you hear that she put her faith into action? She was not wishing. Oh, maybe somebody will tell Jesus, come and heal me. No, in all her weakness, in all her frailness, in all she said, I'm going to go for my healing. I am weak, I am in pain, I am suffering, I am in trouble, but I will go, and I know where it is. It is in identifying with who. Jesus is my healer, my son of righteousness, my deliverer. I will get my healing Hallelujah. And she came and she touched the hem of his garment. And the rest is history which we are reading today.

Speaker 1:

Beloved, what are you struggling with, huh? What are you struggling, what? Where do you need a touch? The question is can we touch Jesus today? Can we? Because he has already told us, he has already told us in his word, told us, he has already told us in his word wherever two or three shall gather in my name, there shall I be in the midst of them. So what happens in the church? Let me what happens in the church? We come for a service, but we are like the crowd that was touching Jesus all over. We are happy. We are around Jesus, we are happy.

Speaker 1:

Some people were sick there, but they were not stretching out with faith to draw out the healing power of Jesus, to draw out the healing power of Jesus. They were not stretching out their hearts To draw the healing power of Jesus. Faith has triumphed. Let me tell you this Jesus Christ has not changed. We have sung here. He is the same. His compassions never fail. He still has a heart for the sick. He still feels our pain.

Speaker 1:

Beloved, do anything that you need to do but reach out and touch his hands. Whatever you have heard about Jesus, you know. There's a song we normally sing here. We say where two or three gather in his name and there is faith for something new. We know that anything can happen. You remember what I was saying Anything can happen. And then will say say amen, the song we sang here about amen, about amen. You know where two or three gather in the room and there is faith for something new. We know that you are here in our midst and anything can happen anytime. We have to believe that. We have to stretch our faith. Beloved, we have a healer and that healer has not changed. We have a God who is able to transform.

Speaker 1:

Don't take the words of your doctor at the final word. Jesus and God has the final say. We have testimonies of people who have been told by the doctor that you only have six months to live, you only have two years to live, and they have said no, the doctor has said that, but the word of God says there is a great physician and I will go for him. Let's touch the hem of his garment and we shall be made whole. You need prayer. Let's go to God in prayer and he will heal our diseases today, for Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. Amen. Alright, let's stand up. We'll see you in our next teaching.
