Speaker 1:

Hallelujah. So welcome to our time for the word. We will turn to the gospel according to Mark, chapter 1, mark chapter 1 and verse 21. We'll read through to verse number 28. Jesus began to teach and we are told that the people were amazed. They were amazed at the words, at the teaching of Jesus, that he was not teaching like one of the teachers verse 22, and they were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes. Now, the scribes were their teachers. Those were the PhD guys, people who were learned in scriptures and they were respected in the society in scriptures and they were respected in the society.

Speaker 1:

But when Jesus began to speak and to teach, he was teaching and speaking with a different kind of authority. He was not cutting, as was usually the case with the other teachers, because the standard was when somebody was teaching, they will begin to court, like they would court the previous teachers or renowned teachers of the law, like they will court Hillel. Hillel was a very popular and respected teacher. So they will say somebody is teaching, just like the way we have. You know, somebody is giving a presentation, they will give quotation, you know quoting so-and-so, and so they would quote Rabbi Hillel or Rabbi Shomer shummer. He said this and this he's trying to explain so that people will get to understand and accept. But when Jesus was speaking he was different. He was not cutting any man, spoke on his own authority. And I'm taking a little bit more time here on the reaction of the people. You know, because it's important so that we understand who we are dealing with, because it's a revelation that is coming out about Jesus very early on in the ministry, in his teaching that he was an authority in himself and so people were wondering. You know that he is talking. Remember how, like in the Sermon in the Mountain, you know where he would teach the people and say you have heard that it is written, you shall not do this, thou shall not murder, but I say to you so Jesus was explaining the law, the real meaning of the word, and he spoke with such authority that people were astonished. Why did Jesus speak with such authority? Because Jesus was the word.

Speaker 1:

Now we have been learning great things in our Bible study. Maybe you're just listening this online, but our Bible study, we have been studying Jesus in the Old Testament and one of the things that is coming out very clearly is that the whole Bible, the entire scriptures, is all about Jesus, the revelation God gave through Jesus Christ. You know, and how Jesus will say these words were speaking about me. So Jesus is the word. And so the teachers of the day, the scribes, the teachers of the day, the scribes, their rabbis, were teaching people and they were watering down the word of God, not giving the truth as it is. And so Jesus comes into the scene and he is the word of God.

Speaker 1:

Remember John, chapter 1, verse 1, we all sing this. He said in the beginning was the word, and the word was with God and the word was God. All things were created by him and without him, nothing was created that is created. So he is there, he is God, he is the word of God. And so Jesus, as he is speaking, he is speaking about the word that he has given and he is explaining the truth, the really meaning of the word, to the people. And the people are astonished. What kind of a man is this? He couldn't quote a school that he went to Remember when he was 12 years of age. He went and he was explaining to the scribes and the rabbi the scriptures and they wondered and all the people said where did this guy go to school? We know him, he is from Nazareth. But where did he learn all this?

Speaker 1:

But Jesus was explaining the truth, the real meaning of the word, what God meant, and he was correcting the wrong teachings. And as he was correcting the wrong teachings that people had received through their teachers and their scribes, their hearts were burning. You know, like when he would tell them you have heard, it is written thou shall not murder. And then he explains to them it is not just about taking a knife or a bullet and shooting, but if you hate your own brother, you have already murdered. You see, like you tell them it is written thou shall not commit adultery, you know. And then he will explain to them the real meaning. It's not just about going to commit adultery or fornication, but if you start lasting now, we all get attracted but you follow after and follow after those last full thoughts and you continue in them, then you have committed adultery.

Speaker 1:

And so people were pricked, their hearts were pricked to hear oh so this is what this word meant and this man is speaking with such authority that they were not able to contradict it, they were not able to say no to it. And that reaction that is written astonished. They were astonished is more than being surprised. It's more than just being amazed. The real meaning, the original word, the real meaning is to be struck with wonder, to the point of actually fearing. So these people were actually. They were terrified, like wow, you know, all of a sudden you were hit with the truth, like what? We didn't see this, we didn't see this, we didn't know this. And they were terrified at the authority of Jesus, at the words that Jesus was saying.

Speaker 1:

Why is this important to us? It is important to us and for you, always listen to know that when God you see Jesus is God, jesus was God, is God, is God. Jesus was God is God. When God is speaking to you, when the word of God is coming to you and it is the spirit of God that is ministering and speaking to you, that word comes. With the power that word is, it comes out different All of a sudden. Your conscience, if you're not living right, your conscience is pricked. Unfortunately, we have churches today. People go in, they hear the word, but their hearts are not pricked. No, we need to get the word being preached, the truth of God, because the truth cuts.

Speaker 1:

Remember what it says in Hebrews, chapter four. Hebrews, chapter four and verse 12. It says for the word of God is living and powerful, able to divide the soul and the spirit, the bone and the marrow, and piercing to sharper than any two edges. I'm just paraphrasing it is sharper than any two-edged sword, able to divide the soul and the spirit, the bone and the marrow, and is a designer of the thoughts of men and women Beloved. The word of God is alive, the word of God is powerful, and when the Holy Spirit begins to speak to us, there is something that you sense. These are not just mere words that I am receiving. I'm receiving the word of God, and the word of God has power to transform and change our lives and give us a new trajectory in life. So that was the reaction of the people, but look at the reaction of the devils here.

Speaker 1:

Okay, so there was a worshiper right in the church, right in the synagogue. We are told he was one of them. Now we are not told anything more about. So we can only speculate whether he was just an ordinary person, whether he was one of the leaders. But we know this is a man who came to worship, and we are told there was in the synagogue. So he was one of them, he was part of them, but there was something about this man. He had a spirit. He had an unclean spirit. Now there was a man in their synagogue. So there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit, singular, an unclean spirit. So here we have a worshiper, we have a worshiper of God, but he has an unclean spirit. It doesn't say an unclean heart, he had an unclean spirit. If it was unclean heart, almost everyone had unclean, but this was a demonic entity, a spirit of uncleanness that was in this man. But he was coming to church, he was coming to the service, he was coming to worship and he had been comfortable worshiping with them.

Speaker 1:

Now, when we talk about demons, of course we are reminded some of the things that we have learned. And if you have not listened to the teachings, I taught a lot about demons, what demons are and how they enter people. They are there, available in our YouTube. I encourage you to go and listen and if you've had them, listen again. They will give you insight. You will learn something more.

Speaker 1:

But what are demons? Demons are disembodied spirits, disembodied personalities. They are spirits. Spirits is just persons without bodies, bodies. We are also spirits, but we have a body, all right. But spirits have no body, physical body like we have, all right. Do you know? They are persons Because demons, they have a will, they have emotions and they can understand, they can speak. They have all these characters that make somebody a person. They can decide, they can say take us to the pigs, for example, don't take us out, take us to the. They have emotions, they tremble, they can cry out, so they have emotions, they tremble, they can cry out, so they have emotions. All right. So demons are persons who have no bodies, but they are spirits. And because they have no bodies, they crave to live in a body so that they can express the character of who they are. That's what demons are. Demons love to enter into bodies. They can enter into animals, as you see in the Bible going to the pigs, but they love to enter into human beings and live and express their character.

Speaker 1:

You can have a demon of anger, for example. You can have a demon, a lying spirit, a demon of lying. We all sometimes find ourselves oh, we lied, but that doesn't mean you have a demon, right. But when you have a lying spirit. You are a habitual liar. There are people like that. They are always. They are always. They just can't speak the truth because it's an anointing, it's a spirit, it's a power that they have from within.

Speaker 1:

So or you can have a demon of anger or a demon of an immoral spirit, an unclean spirit, now the work of the flesh. Let me not get into so much into those differences, but we do have the work of the flesh. Anger is a work of the flesh. If you go to Galatians 5, verse 19, you will see that even in immorality, fornication, adultery, there are works of the flesh. But when you have a spirit, a spirit of immorality or a spirit of anger, it gives you power. Spirits come to empower, just like when we receive the Holy Spirit, we receive power from God. So if you have a demon of anger, it empowers that section of your anger and your anger is insane, is uncontrollable. Once the spirit begins to act, you do things and afterwards you come and regret and say why did I do? I didn't even know what I was doing. That's a demon spirit. I don't want to get into signs and symptoms of demonic oppression, but I have a whole lesson about almost an hour, maybe 50 or so minutes in YouTube about signs and symptoms of demons in persons. You'll do well to go and listen again.

Speaker 1:

But what we're saying here is that this man had a spirit, an unclean spirit, and when Jesus began to share the truth and to share the word of God, he shouted out, he screamed. You know the words they say. He screamed, he cried out. If you read other versions, he shouted at the top of his voice let us alone. Let us alone. What have we to do with you, jesus?

Speaker 1:

And he identifies Jesus by where he lived. He was born in Bethlehem, but he grew up in Nazareth. What do we have to do with you? I know who you are. He says have you come to destroy us? Did you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God.

Speaker 1:

Think with me for a moment beloved, that the people, their reaction was astonishment at the teachings of Jesus, but they are not getting a revelation of who Jesus is, a revelation of who Jesus is and demon spirits. They listen to Jesus and they are able to discern and know Devils, know the truth and they could identify Jesus. And immediately the guy begins to shout because he knows, they know the scriptures. The devil knows the scriptures. He knows the devil and his minions. Okay, demons are the lower cadres of angelic beings that are under satanic control, and they are the primary agents of all evil. It's what Satan uses to propagate evil in the world. They are called evil spirits. All right, so they know the truth.

Speaker 1:

Satan knows the truth. He knows there's a promised Messiah who is going to come and destroy the power he has heard over human race. He was going to be the holy one. He has read the scriptures. He knows the truth. Satan knows that his days are numbers and so when he saw the Messiah this is the one and he calls him the holy one of God they began to tremble.

Speaker 1:

Have you come to destroy? And look at this. He is speaking in plural. We are told the man had one spirit. But when the spirit begins to speak, he says what have we plural? What have we to do with you, jesus of Nazareth? He is speaking on behalf of all the demons. He is speaking on behalf of all of Satan and his kingdom. Have you come to destroy us? Well, he's asking what have we to do with you? Jesus had nothing to do with them other than to cast them out and to release men from oppression. That's what he came to do. He came to destroy the works of the devil, all right, and of course they are trembling, they are scared. What's going to happen to us? So it is not the man, it's now the demon spirit that is speaking.

Speaker 1:

Beloved, this is where we aspire to go. All right, as a group of believers, part of the body of Jesus Christ, we want to be able to be sharing the truth, the truth that make demon spirits uncomfortable when they hear the truth, you know, and Jesus says I am the way, I am the truth and I am the life. No man comes to the Father except through me. You know, nobody had ever, ever, said something like that. And so when people hear him that I am their truth, not just a truth. I am the truth that people need to hear, I am the life that people need to have, I am the way, the way to go to the Father, to be reconciled with the Father. That truth is powerful. That truth will set men free when they begin to hear that. That truth will set men free when they begin to share that. And we should be ready as we get into prayer, as we want to have an altar where the power of God is moving, that we begin to see demons becoming uncomfortable, that people will come who are bound, people will come with some hidden spirit, even hidden demons, in them, and they begin to manifest.

Speaker 1:

And so Jesus rebukes the demon. He takes authority over the demon and tells it shut up. Literally, that's the way he said shut up, you know, be quiet and come out of the man. And we are told look at the manifestations there. We are told the demon spirit cried out have you seen that? All right, I'm reading this because I think that is good for us to get to know. The demons are still the same, they haven't changed. You have to understand, satan has not changed, demon has not changed and the people have not changed, people who are oppressed. They are the same. We are told, verse 26,. And when the unclean spirit had convulsed him and cried out with a loud voice, you know, cried out, he came out of him.

Speaker 1:

So sometimes when demons are coming out, it can be messy. It can be messy, and some of our churches, they don't like that kind of thing. They don't like, they would rather have people come with demons and go back with their demons. They would rather have their calmness, their quietness. They don't want this kind of business. No, no, no, no, no, no. We don't want that. People crying out, people screaming in church, people making loud noises, and demons love to stay and hide and go unnoticed. Demons love. They love to oppress unnoticed so that we can give reasons, we can give excuses to everything else, as long as we don't identify that people's problem is because of demonic spirit. They love that. And we have many churches many churches, unfortunately who would not want to do anything to do with telling demons to come out.

Speaker 1:

But we just be ready for anything. Whatever God wants to do, let God do it. So Jesus takes authority and power against the demon spirit and tells it to come out, power against the demon spirit and tells it to come out. And when it says come out, it comes out and throws him apart, convulses him, throws him down. So you see, sometimes you see people rolling on the floor. It's not them doing it, it's the demon who is tormented and doesn't want to leave. But because of the authority of the word, they have to go and so they are putting their last fight. All right, so let's be ready. Okay, let's be ready for anything. I'm just repeating that because we are going into some very interesting times. We want to do what Jesus did. We want to be a church. We want to be a people who do what Jesus did. We want to be a church. We want to be a people who do what Jesus did. People come with problems. Let's believe God, that God is going to help them.

Speaker 1:

Jesus came to set the captives free. That's his mission, hallelujah. And so Jesus received, we are told where. We have read there, people are astonished and they said, with authority, verse 27,. They were all amazed so that they questioned amongst themselves, saying what is this? What is this new doctrine? For with authority he commands even the unclean spirits and they obey. With authority, that word is lauded exousia, exousia. I want you to go and study that. Exousia, authority. With authority he commands the spirits and they come out.

Speaker 1:

Jesus exercised authority and when he rose from the dead Matthew, chapter 28 and verse 18, we read he says he tells the disciples, those of his followers, after they see him, the resurrected Savior, he says all authority and power has been given to me. Now go into all the world. So he says all authority. So Jesus, by the death on the cross. He received authority. He received power. He received authority. He said all authority has been given unto me.

Speaker 1:

If you read Colossians 2, verse 14 and 15, he says Jesus made a public spectacle of them, that of demons, of Satan, and he triumphed over them in the cross. So at the cross there was a transaction that was carried out. It was like when a general wins the battle, when a general wins the battle against the enemy forces, and as they come back into the city, they chain the captives, chained the other general, and they pulled them along the city to parade them chained on their legs and move them, to show them publicly to declare them defeated. The winning general will do that. That's what is described in Colossians, chapter 2. I'm forced to go there. Colossians, chapter 2, let me just open it up really quickly. Colossians 2, verse 14. All right, colossians, chapter 2, let me read that with you.

Speaker 1:

Colossians 2, verse 14 and 15. Having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us, and he has taken it away out of the way having nailed it to the cross Verse 15,. Having disarmed principalities and powers, he made a public spectacle of them triumphing over them in it or triumphing over them in the cross. He made a public spectacle. So Jesus made a public spectacle. He triumphed over principalities and powers, principalities and powers he triumphed over and made a public like a general, showing everyone this is a defeated foe, satan is defeated, hallelujah. And so that's how Jesus, when he rose now from the dead, that's when he tells the disciples all authority and power has been given unto me. Remember, in Philippians, chapter two, right In Philippians, chapter two, where he says that chapter two, from verse 9 and 11, you know, he humbled himself even to death on the cross.

Speaker 1:

Therefore, god has given him a name, a name that is above every name, so that, at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, everything in heaven and on earth. He has been given the name that has power in heaven and on earth. He says all authority has been given to me, in heaven and on earth, everywhere, top and bottom, jesus has the power. Jesus has a name that is above every name. I know somebody may be saying well, that's good, pastor, that's Jesus. That's Jesus. He was given that power. I'm getting ready to finish here, now, here. This is very important. This is very important as we go to wind up, you see, we can say, oh, pastor, that's Jesus, that's Jesus, but he's not here. I have issues, I have problems, we have demons, we have sicknesses, we have oppression all over. Now, here is the good news. Here is the good news. Jesus transferred, delegated this authority and power to us. Beloved Jesus delegated this authority and power to us.

Speaker 1:

I'm going to read one scripture, luke chapter. I think it's Luke, chapter 10, verse 19. Let me see there it's coming up in my spirit, right, jesus. Jesus has given us Luke, chapter 10, verse 19. It's coming in my spirit. Has given us Luke, chapter 10, verse 19,. It's coming in my spirit. He says behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Because he was talking to the disciples after they came back, saying the demons are subject to us. Lord, you sent us in your name, you sent us in your name, and so the demons were subject to us. And so he says behold, I have given you, I give you the authority.

Speaker 1:

Hallelujah, I love that word authority. It's the same word. It's the same word we have read in Mark, chapter 1, there, verse 29. Sorry, verse 27, where he says and they were amazed and astonished. What kind of teaching? What new doctrine is this? What kind of teaching? What new doctrine it is? For with authority, with authority, he commands even the evil spirits and they come out All right. So that same word, authority, that we're saying about Jesus is the same one we see here, this exousia, this authority, this power. If we had time we would dig deeper into the meaning of that. It's so loaded, it's so powerful. But Jesus has given us authority, he has given us the power.

Speaker 1:

It is us first of all, to gain understanding, to know who we are. Hallelujah, remember what he said when he was ascending to heaven Mark, chapter 16. We know that these signs shall follow them. That believe. These signs shall follow them. That believe. That's just Matthew, mark 16, verse 17 and 18. These signs shall follow them. That believe in my name. They shall cast out demons. Beloved, satan knows Demons. Know that we have authority. He knows who we are. He knows he knew who Jesus is. He knows who you are and don't ever think that you have to wait for somebody else to come. You have authority. He says these signs shall follow them that believe.

Speaker 1:

Are you a believer? Are you a believer? If you are a believer, it's not about how big you are, it's not about how old you are. No, no, are Spiritual authority has nothing to your spirit is ageless. Remember your spirit was there before you know. You get into this body, but the spirit never dies. This body will die, but the spirit is immoral. The spirit lives forever. So your spirit man is not small. Your spirit man. You may be tiny, you may be thin, you may be big, you may be tall, you may be short. That makes no difference. These signs shall follow them. That believe it is believers.

Speaker 1:

That's why we have to get to know our authority. We have to get to know who we are, to know what Jesus has already done for us. He has paid the debt for us to be indwelled by the Holy Spirit Beloved. These are deep things. We are talking, but they are important. I'm repeating this because we have believers who have.

Speaker 1:

They want to wait for somebody else to come and speak to the devil. They don't want to take a stand by themselves. The Bible says resist the devil and he will flee. We don't have to wait for somebody else. Once you know the truth and you wield the truth and the truth shall set you free. You wield the truth against the enemy. You know you have a demon of anger. Stand against that demon and say you have to live, you got to go, you got to go.

Speaker 1:

Of course, if it is a work of the flesh, the work of the flesh is conquered by the cross. You have to pick the cross, crucify the flesh. But if your problem is a spirit, a spirit has to be expelled. If your problem is a spirit, a spirit has to be expelled. If your problem is the flesh, the flesh has to be crucified and the only thing to crucify is the cross. Pick up the cross, put the things of the flesh down and crucify the flesh. Say no, I know, flesh, this is what you want. You ain't going to get it, you just refuse. And then the body has to bow because it has to die to those demands. But if it's a demon spirit, you're feeling compelled, you're feeling pushed, you're feeling there's something that comes upon me that is not natural, I start doing things that I shouldn't be doing. Then that's a demonic spirit and you have to expel it. You can have it done during a deliverance session, but you yourself.

Speaker 1:

Jesus didn't say and these signs shall follow pastors, or these signs shall follow apostles or prophets or evangelists, or whoever he says, these signs shall follow them. That believe In my name. Don't do it in your own name. Don't look at yourself, don't look at how big you are or how long you've been in salvation. In my name, in my name, they shall cast out devils, demons. They shall lay hands on the sea. That's why, beloved, we want to do what Jesus asked us to do. We want to believe God. Because he said it, we will do it. And believe God to follow us with the signs and wonders.

Speaker 1:

Well, are you ready for that Right? Do you have something that you have to take a stand? Could there be a hidden demon, like the man who was in a synagogue attending worship? But there is a spirit that was inside. There is a spirit that was compelling him to do something. We don't know what kind of spirit, but it was an unclean spirit and it recognized the authority of Jesus in the room. Let those demons in you, let every demon in you, serve it with a notice. Say you have to recognize who I am, who is in me, and begin to exercise that authority.

Speaker 1:

1 John 4, verse 4,. He says I write to you, young man, because you are strong, and he says greater is he that is in you than the one that is in the world we have Jesus. Don't say Jesus is in heaven, no, he is in us, he is in you. Stand by faith, believe, Stretch out your faith and believe God and let the demons flee from you. We are running out of time. It's our time to close, but may the Lord bless you. May the Lord open your heart to see who you were as a child of God, the authority that you have, and begin to stand. It's a battle. Begin to stand against the enemy. God bless you. God, do you good and we will continue with you in our next teaching. Amen. Hope you are learning and receiving something from the word of God.

Speaker 1:
